1 minute in and I can already tell that he is the type of guy to not replace something if it ain't broken. He's got my utmost respect for that

Like Linus said there is an age where if something works you don't touch it.   It's why sometimes youre at a business and to do some normal mundane thing they open a terminal and run some paleolithic software on some server somewhere.

I'm curious what OS and setup was used for the NAS.  First time trying to build one outside of a Synology and I'm trying to make it simple and effective as a media vault.  Maybe create a VM for a cloud key or something.  Any tips are welcome.

Already have the drives (SSD for OS and 2 HDD's for raid 1 storage), optane drive, and the HP elite desk to put it all in.  Trying to keep the OS cost at little to nothing to maintain wife approval factor.  Thank you for the help in advance!

LTT Frequently uses Truenas Scale.  it's really good.

assuming jake set it up, its probably truenas scale lol

imo, truenas scale is definitely the way to go, super easy to setup and has an awesome webui. plus the ability to throw docker containers on there and ssh into a familiar shell is great. (also its foss so thats always a plus 😉) If you do look into using truenas dont worry about core, scale is debian based, core is freebsd. The benefit of using core is you can follow literally any ubuntu/debian tutorials to manage, packages, configure the system, etc when the webui isnt enough

if you want a little bit more user-friendliness you could look into buying unraid, personally do not have any experience with it but I've heard good stuff about it.

FYI, the anchors that come with the Frame TVs are not for drywall. They are for concrete. That's why they spun. Samsung (for some reason) didn't include anchors for drywall, which most people have in their house. It's dumb. I carry drywall anchors specifically for when I install Frame TVs.
