PCIe or USB Soundcard

Jojo0607

I have recently acquired a 15 year old water-cooled PC that has no audio connecters and was wondering if I should get the Soundcard that was supposed to be with the motherboard or get a new PCIe Soundcard or just a simple USB so I can get audio to the front jack.

If your just trying to get sound out of it, then whichever is cheaper, if your trying to do something higher audio quality then usb, pcie used to be the final word in fidelity but external usb cards nowadays are great if you stick to reputable brand names, and you'll be able to use it with other devices and future computers

Ryzen 5800X3D(Because who doesn't like a phat stack of cache?) GPU - 7700Xt

                                                           X470 Strix f gaming, 32GB Corsair vengeance, WD Blue 500GB NVME-WD Blue2TB HDD, 700watts EVGA Br

~Extra L3 cache is exciting, every time you load up a new game or program you never know what your going to get, will it perform like a 5700x or are we beating the 14900k today? 😅~

I'd just go USB. Personally, every USB wireless headset I've bought has sounded great, so having a DAC through USB should get comparable results. Having it in the system, especially a watercooled one, just 'spills' potential problems. With how old it is, its quite possible to run into PCIe bandwidth restrictions too.

Yeah but the card that was combined with the board for this system is $50 used on eBay so I'm just tryin to figure out if it's worth or just get a new one that's similar for the same price and I do need one that has front audio connecters since there are none on the motherboard

I can vouch for this dac/amp.  It rivals the best modern onboard audio and is probably a little better, all at an unbeatable price.
