New GPU, games look like crap?

Those are FSR artifacts. Nothing you can do about it other than disabling it or increasing internal rendering resolution.

Hey guys, I recently made the switch from a RTX 2070 to an AMD 7900XT. Performance is night and day. However, I've noticed in multiple games (Overwatch, RDR2, The Finals) these strange aliasing artifacts. I've attached a screenshot as an example. You can really see it in the floor, the yellow indention in the wall, the explosive canister, and the platform in the back. It is so bad it causes games to be borderline unplayable.

Graphics settings are maxed, I've tried tweaking settings in both AMD software and in-game settings.

Games look great and run great, but this is really immersion breaking and I never had this issue with Nvidia cards. Really don't want buyers remorse because of this small issue. Please help!!!Screenshot1.thumb.png.2ecb8e8b8a3587a68c17fcc75b632f45.png

That's disappointing. I have plenty of GPU headroom. What would you say the best fix is for graphical quality? Thanks for the help.

Is this just an AMD issue or does Nvidia DLSS have the same issues?

There arent any. What I try to do is start with what game recommended me graphics settings wise and increase resolution as close to native as possible while keeping the FPS higher than my acceptable threshold (which is nowadays 75 fps).

DLSS would have some glitches too if you were to keep internal rendering resolution that low but DLSS IMO does a better job at making some glitches less annoying, and thus result looks better (again my opinion).

GeForce to Radeon. Did you remove the GeForce drivers with DDU before you installed the new GPU?

If you have lots of headroom then why would you use FSR? It's meant to increase performance when you don't have enough, and it as usual comes with drawbacks.

they already told you the fix, turn FSR *off*.

FSR is for people who want higher framerates,  if you rather want a nice picture you need to turn it *off* you cant have both, its a pretty simple concept.

It's not even an opinion it's basically a fact. FSR is getting better it's implementation is Avatar is really good but DLSS is still a level above it.

AMD cards are cheaper for a reason.  Because they offer a lesser experience, especially once you get into the surrounding tech.

This is not a very smart comment.

Everything is judged from a value and affordability perspective otherwise everyone would have a 4090.

A 7900XT is leagues better than a 2070 in every single way.

tbf, fsr 1.0 is on by default... and im not seeing any artefacts compared to off, all im "seeing" is that my gpu is a lot cooler, so ofc i leave it on! (rtx 3070)

also interesting fact, FSR is AMD technology but its vendor agnostic, so it does indeed work on Nvidia and Intel gpus also. 🙂

So did turning it off improve anything?

Its vendor agnostic in that it will work but for some reason it tends to give bigger uplifts on AMD , You get good gains on both just a little more on AMD.

I suspect its some form of driver optimisation and not hardware based , Nvidia probably doesn't bother too much about it since DLSS is there party piece.

Another reason why upscaling is a useless, time wasting, resource wasting gimmick. All this because RTX is too intensive even for RTX cards that they require playing at a lower resolution BUT WAIT it tricks you it isn't all the while being marketed as this "magic extra performance button". Absolutely disgusting. I can't wait for this stupid trend to die out.

Edit: I should clarify - the trend of considering FSR / DLSS a magic "increase performance button". It certainly has uses, just not the retarded marketing ones.

Yes. AMD FSR2 just has some strange graphical artifacts I've noticed. Some games are more noticeable than others, RDR2 looks has pretty bad artifacting under motion with FSR2 enabled. Luckily, this card is powerful enough to run it at native resolution, ultra settings quite well.

The Finals still has these artifacts even at native resolution with FSR disabled. I think it's just a bug with the game or art style.

Now that we have figured this out, I am very happy with my 7900XT. I understand Nvidia wins the battle in DLSS vs FSR, but DLSS isn't worth the massive upcharge IMO. For gaming on a budget, AMD takes the dub.

That's good.

Just as a personal observation, that gritty, sparkly effect you have is something I noticed playing Fortnite (briefly, don't batter me...lol) and I noticed turning "effects" off or to low got rid of it completely.

I don't know if The Finals has a setting dedicated to effects, and you say you found a fix anyway, but I just thought I'd mention it in case you see it in other games.

Not saying it'll work, but something to consider.

I'm not even sure exactly what causes it in Fortnite when effects are turned to high, but I just noticed it cleaned it up significantly when I lowered it or turned it off.
