In Games: Capping 2 frames per second under the monitors' Hz or FPS limit. Any benefits? Fact or fiction?

For me it helped a lot with microstutters and it just feels a lot smoother.

Capped in Nvidia control panel at 141fps on a 144hz display.

I cap my frames 5 below the refresh rate (because frame limiters arent perfect and they can still go 1-2 frames above) so that i am always within freesync range
