Rtx 4070 founder edition performing horribly in games

GrizzlyTrash

Hi, this is my first time using this forum thought people might be able to help. I have just built a new pc. When I am in game it looks like it is using the cpu gpu and the performance is the same. idk what to do? The gpu is barely getting 60fps and the game looks horrible. There is also a noise coming from the gpu.

specs:

i5-13500

corsair vengeance ddr5 6000mhz 32gb

msi b760

rtx 4070 founders edition

Pay is a corsair rm750e

What games, what resolution?  If there is coilwhine coming from the GPU then its under load and the iGPU is not in use.
Noise from GPU like Coilwhine is completely safe and not dangerous in any way, does not affect the lifespan of the product.

Hello.
It was in apex legends, and I haven’t tried any other games because I don’t have any more installed.

I am playing at 1080p.
the wattage showing up in the NVIDIA over lay says 49 watts.
I have checked all the cable. Should I try furmark?

Well, the GPU should be drawing a lot more than 50 watts even at 1080p.

You could try to go into the BIOS and disable the intel graphics so it will only use your Nvidia GPU.

Yeah I know that is why I think it might be a problem with the gpu. I am not sure how to disable the intel graphics in bios but did check to see if the game was using them but it there was no utilisation on them. Should I return it?

No need to return anything just yet, we have barely started troubleshooting.  The likelyhood of your GPU being broken is very low.

Is your HDMI / Displayport cable connected to the GPU or Motherboard?

Yeah the cable is plugged directly into the gpu I made sure I did that. I am usually fairly good at troubleshooting but this has stubbed me.

Aight so

Run like unigene superposition, write down the score.

DDU BOTH the intel AND nvidia driver whilst unplugged from the internet. Have a new fresh downloaded driver ready for nvidia and install after a reboot when STILL NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET.

run it again STILL NO INTERNET!!!!!!!!

Write down score and compare.

Also give us the score and google if the score is alright.

If score good. Yay!!!!! If bad next

Connect to the internet and let it chill for like 15 minutes will probably fetch some driverdygoop

Restart

Try unigen again

Is this a fresh Windows install... or did you re-use a SSD/HDD with Windows already installed from the old computer?

There is approximately a 117% chance I edited my post.

Okay so I have run superposition, the score seems to be low compared to other 4070. The score was 8521 on the extreme preset

and on medium it was 30883.
I will do the DDU stuff this afternoon.
thank you for the help so far.

Hi so I have just tried the gpu in my brothers system and it seems to perform fine but still doesn’t work well in the other system. Dose is there something I am missing?

Okay so I have run superposition

the problem with that is... everyone will interpret this differently.

hence run firestrike benchmark and LINK the results here, there's zero room for interpretation with firestrike.

The Superposition benchmark confirms that your computer isn't entirely the issue. It does show your GPU isn't scoring as high on the 1080P Extreme as it probably should.

  1. Did you install the latest Nvidia GPU driver?
  2. Did you enable Resizable Bar in UEFI?
  3. What Windows version are you using?
  4. What monitor are you using and do you have G-Sync etc. enabled.
  5. Is your motherboard on the latest UEFI?
  6. Did you install all the motherboard drivers (including the chipset drivers)?
  7. If you want, you can use MSI Center to do it for you. However, some people do have issues with it.
  8. What are your current RAM settings? (Are you running an XMP profile?)

You also need to check your Apex settings here. You should be able to turn them all up to the highest settings and it be fine.

have you tried other games?

and don't worry about the lod settings too much, but you can reset all settings to default in nvidia control panel,  which is recommended anyway.

Read my previous post. I linked to the chipset drivers, and I also stated they are in MSI Center.

I will ask again:

Do you have the latest UEFI?

Did you verify your Apex Legends settings?

Also, your Firestrike score looks slightly below average for a RTX 4070, but nothing that indicates Apex Legends should run like garbage.

I have tried other games and they don’t perform well either, the benchmarks usually look okay but doesn’t translate to the games for some reason.
