My resolution is 1440p - Those are my full specs.

I started realizing that my PC is underperforming when a friend of mine with a Geforce 2070 SUPER, AMD ryzen 7 3700x has been getting better fps than me. I tested it on same specs as him and he still gets quite a lot more.

I bought my parts of off Amazon, first condition with high ratings. I tested my parts CPU and GPU on bottleneck calculator and it is 11.3% bottleneck If I remember correctly. My friend is 11%.

What do I do?

bottleneck calculators are tottally useless, ignore them.

What games were you playing? At what settings?

What temps are you at?

Is your friend also running at 1440p?

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

Bottleneck calculators are often time full of shit. Especially if you are using that garbage site Userbenchmark.

Check in game settings. Often times that is pretty much the main difference, there is a setting that is different causing the performance difference.

regarding GPU, 2070Super and 3060ti are really not that much different in performance, 3060ti is better roughly by 10%. Cpu should be a bit better.

Check thermals, make sure you arent throttling.

Fortnite and GTA V

Check in game settings. That will be that absolute main difference. Make sure hes not at 1080p and you are at 1440p.

did you bother checking temps or driver updates or windows updates or game updates or game settings or bios updates?

I haven't checked temps, driver updates are on point. His OS is Windows 10 and mine is 11 (Idk if that makes any difference), there is only one Windows update for security which I will install right now.

About bios updates - Idk what you mean, could you please explain

a bios update as in an update for the motherboards bios , did you check if your board has an update for it that was never applied , ideally one that may refer to stability or compatibility

What do I do?

First make serious comparisons, ie same game same settings same res, check your and your friend's FPS

Bottleneck calculators are pretty vague and inaccurate

In any scenario, GPU bound being the most probable at 1440p with these specs, you should have around 10% better framerate

this is all pretty useless... do a firestrike benchmark (demo on steam) post the results here, we can immediately see if your pc is "underperforming" instead of this senseless comparison with your "friend".

Since I do not know what to put in, Imma give all the info. I tested it on 3DMark:
Graphics score: 6 988

CPU score: 11 017

Graphics test 1: 49.69 FPS
Graphics test 2: 37.33 FPS

CPU test: 37.01 FPS

My score is: 7 393

Average temperature on CPU during tests: 86 °C

Average temperature on GPU during test: 57 °C

ok, thanks, i need the link tho (since there's a compare option,  which will give a definite answer)

edit: im gonna say this sounds really low, but i still need the link cause im not sure (there's also plenty of other data that might be useful)

Crap, I didn't save it. Imma run a new benchmark. I made my fans faster so my CPU temp isn't so low. Hope it goes well

Reinstalled the drivers. I get a bit higher performance when you take in mind that my graphics are on default which makes them way better

Thanks for the info. I will do it now and let you know

Can you check in GPU-Z if your GPU has enough PCie lanes ?

Some guy here had issues but he plugged his GPU in a x1 slot lol 😄

It says that my lanes are 4.

Urgh that's the problem !

It's too low, and the card is x16, and needs at least x8 to work properly ! Where did you plug the GPU ? It should go into the top PCie slot of the board

If it is then it's badly pluggedand most lanes make no contact, reseat it
