Shoukd I go with DDR5 or DDR4

Hi All,

I'm planning on building my first gaming pc. Hoping to be gaming at 1440p and 4k so pretty decided on the 7900 xtx. I'm not so sure about the motherboard, cpu and ram generation though.

I originally speced this combo based on on AM5 but have been thinking about going AM4 now. I've worked out I can save about $200 going with AM4. Is there any big drawback going this route bar the limited upgrade path.

Do you live near a microcenter? I would not suggest buying into the AM4 platform and DDR4 at this point in time.

You're buying a 7900xtx so it can’t be a funding issue.

Where are you located?

I'm based in ireland, we don't really have a great marker for pc parts. Have to look across Europe for components.

Funding isn't necessarily the issue. I just like the idea of making a saving where possible. Any advice would be great

If you're not on a tight budget go AMD AM5, better performance and upgradability

AM4 is a dead platform with no upgrade path. AM5 will, AMD assures us, be around for at least one or two more generations.
