Fixed the issue: Drives were detected as "foreign" so clearing foreign configuration set all the drives to "ready" which then allowed me to switch to HBA mode

I'm trying to setup this T430 I got to be a TrueNAS server. It has 8 hot swapable drives in the front connected to a PERC H730. My problem is, when I go to switch to HBA mode, it says "The requested operation is not possible at this time". I've tried clearing all configuration and resetting to default and I get the same error. Is there a reason for this?
