Red Dead Redemption FPS dropping to 34 . Average 44.

Originally when I started playing this game, the FPS was steady at 60 with Vsync on. I do not have high refresh rate monitor so I keep VSync on and limit FPS to 60.

Off late, I have been seeing that the game plays only at below 50 FPS and sometimes drops to 34 fps. What could be going wrong? I am under impression that my 12 GB RTX 3060 is capable of handling RDR2 at 1080p and 60 Hz.

The game drops frames quite a bit on DX12. Use Vulkan

Trying that now....

Edit : I went  to change Graphics API to Vulcan and it was already on Vulcan. Now trying DX12.

If you use Vsync, you don't have to also lock your framerate because Vsync already ties the framerate to your monitors refresh rate - or rather, tries too , i should say ~

also well, if it worked before,  but not now... have there been *any* updates? (windows,  game, drivers...)

My bad. not using any frame rate lock. Just V Sync.

Yes there were many updates including Nvidia updates for graphics drivers.

Surprisingly, yesterday after I moved to DX12 it was running at 59 - 60 Hz, then I moved back to Vulcan and it was still running at 59 - 60 Hz..
