MacOS will get window snapping in 2 years - here's why.

I have always been curious about why Macs don't have window snapping, but then I found out that Microsoft PATENTED window snapping back in 2005. HOWEVER patents only last 20 years, so if Apple is smart, window snapping should come to Macs in 2025.

I really hate chemistry.

Linux distros have window snapping. You can pay for an app (I did, it was like $5 one-time) to add window snapping to macOS. If it were patented in a way that Apple couldn't implement it, I dunno how other operating systems or paid apps would get away with it. I think Apple just doesn't want to add window snapping, so they haven't.

Most likely Microsoft does not find going after them is worth it.

Here is the patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/US10592080B2/en

I've always found it interesting that the people I know on macOS keep apps in windows, while everyone on know on Windows turns their apps into walls. This predates the window snapping and goes back to Windows 95. This is probably due to Windows having a maximize button vs the "zoom" button in OS X. I always found it a bit ironic.

With the direction macOS has gone with full screen apps and spaces, I'm not sure tiling makes a lot of sense. Maybe they could give more flexibility to the multi-app spaces. I've never really used them, but I'm sure some people do.
