RTX 3080 VS 3090

JakubR88

I will be using my pc for game engines such as unreal and unity. I will also be doing 3D modelling on blender maya and other things. This pc will also be used for gaming. Is it worth an extra £250? (700) to get the 3090 over the 3080.

Do you know if these use a high amount of vram?

But you should be able to get 3090s for less than 700 pounds

£600 - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition 24GB GDDR6X GDDR6X Graphics Card USED 812674024585 | eBay

£650 - Palit GeForce RTX 3090 GamingPro 24GB GDDR6X Graphics Card 4710562241969 | eBay

Just make sure for either gpu, get an 850w psu at the very least for the 3080 and then at least a 1000w unit for the 3090

So £450 for the 3080 and £700 for the 3090? That's a 55% price increase for roughly 14% more performance. Even at £600 you'd be looking at a 33% price increase. Unless you need the additional VRAM, probably not worth it?

What psu do you have? I might get the 3090 but only if you have a 1000w psu or are planning to get one

they're not gaming, or if they are it'll probably be light gaming. Blender can use a lot of vram, same with unreal engine

for the 3080. But for the 3090 I really recommend getting a 1000w unit since the transient loads on the 30 series were quite intense

here's a good 1000w option Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 - TT Premium Edition 1200 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (PS-TPD-1200FNFAGE-H) - PCPartPicker

Sure, but we don't really know how large OPs projects are. If you need the best absolute performance or the additional VRAM, and/or you're earning money with it, the question becomes sort of moot. Go for the fastest you can afford.

That should be roughly comparable.

As someone who ran a 3090 on a 750w psu for a while a 1000w psu is definately not "minimum".

The problem originally was alot of people trying to run the 3090 with psus not designed to handle transient load spikes because they where usually group regulated multirail crappers from the stone age.

That being said an 850w is fine provided you are not running a 250w cpu with a million case fans and the psu is good quality.

I couldn't get the power to spike over 550w on the 3090 which honestly isn't any higher than my current 7900XT spikes to.

The 6950XT I used on the other hand spiked even higher , Still didn't overwhelm the psu though.

CPU : Ryzen 7 7800X3D @ -18mv all core except -13mv on Core 5 because its a pig.

Ram : 32GB (2X16GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHZ CL34

GPU : Reference Design RX7900XT sold by Saphire running at 1050MV undervolt and +15% PL (355w)

Storage : 1TB WD SN770 + 2TB Samsung 970 Evo

PSU : Corsair HX750w Platinum

Case : Asus Prime AP201 All Mesh MATX

Keyboard : HyperX Alloy Core RGB

Mouse : Corsair M65 Elite RGB

Headset : Corsair HS35 Gaming Headset
