Help me make smart choices on my $1,800 USD gaming PC build?

Go to solution Solved by Ottoman420,

Looks good, If you are not planning to get a 4k display to game at 4k i would go for a 7900xt for that resolution save a bit and get the 7800x3d.

Hey, thank you for your time and help; I'm really grateful.

Could y'all gut check me + give any feedback on performance / cost efficiencies you think would be worth worth investing in? This is my first build in over a decade and with how excited I am to do it, I don't want to overspend where I don't need to.

Thank you! Sincerely!

———

Budget (including currency): ~$1,800 USD

Country: United States, Oregon (with no access to a Microcenter)

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming only: AAA games (ex. Elden Ring, Starfield), WoW, CS:GO/CS2, Stardew Valley

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

  • Peripherals: Not needed.
  • Upgrading from: Console, Xbox Series
  • Planning to buy: In the upcoming week.
  • Resolution: I'll be playing at 1440p, 144hz
  • Other: I want to stick with an AMD CPU and the 7900 XTX, otherwise I'm open to suggestions.

PCPartPicker:

The lists are identical with the exception of the CPU—I started with a Ryzen 7 7700x and am considering upgrading to the 7800X3D, even though it puts me over budget. Anyway, do either of these builds feel like overkill in any regard?

  1. Ryzen 7 7700X + 7900 XTX
  2. Ryzen 7 7800X3D + 7900 XTX

For that price diff the 7800x3d.

I mean the 7900xtx is overkill but why not. You can opt for a cheaper 6950xt and still have a great time. But if you wanna spend it go for it.

Ah, I hadn't considered the 7900xt! I assumed the 7900xtx would make for a noticeable performance upgrade across the board. If a 4k display is what it comes down to, I definitely don't need the 7900xtx.

Thank you!!

Depending on the price difference, the 7800 XT should even get you to 1440p/144hz in most scenarios, but the overhead can’t hurt.
