Old post creations showing in notifications as new?

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This may happen if you follow a subforum and new threads are merged in to existing threads. The notification is sent went the new thread is posted but once it is merged in to an existing thread the notification will show the thread that it was merged in to. If multiple threads get merged in to one it will appear as if you've received multiple notifications for the same topic.

There's been a higher than normal amount of threads merged in the past week due to the recent controversy regarding LMG which is likely why you have noticed it more frequently lately. We have placed a message when creating a new thread in General Discussion prompting people to use the existing threads to cut down on how many topics need to be merged.

I tried looking for a similar mention of the issue, but in my notifications, I'm regularly getting "X posted a topic...." but it's an old post, where I've already received that notification and been following the post for some time.  This will be for posts that are days or weeks old, with many pages of contributions.

At first I assumed perhaps it happens if the OP is edited? But I generally don't see any evidence of that being the case. It's happened  for a while now from time to time, but seems to be happening more frequently now (although perhaps I'm just signed up for a larger quantity of active threads).

Anyways, a mild annoyance, not the end of the world, but thought I'd mention it.

I suspect this is related, I noticed a lot listing related features being broken too.

That could definitely explain that then. I figured there must be a reason.

Thanks!
