Need some information CPU MOBO

Go to solution Solved by SpyRosL,

But will most new Intel processors support 2011? or will they stick with 1150 for a longer time?

I don't understand your question :(

The new processors from intel that came out this month are socket 1150 with a Z97 chipset.

The extreme line is socket 2011 with a X79 chipset and is out for a long time now.

The new extreme line(X99 chipset) is coming out in Q4 of 2014 or Q1 of 2015.

I highly recomment you wait for a X99 build :)

Hi I wanted to upgrade my computer. Going from an i7-3770k core to one of these

 Intel Xeon E3-1270 V3

or this one

Intel Core i7-4770K

Which should I choose. I like to play games, and common video editing 1080p.
And secondly, should I wait for intels new generation with eight cores?? And what socket will the new gen be? Looking for a new mobo too :P Thanks! :):D

Go for the 4770K ~ unless you need Xeon reliability, never buy a Xeon.

New generation CPU will be LGA1150. You should get a Z97 MOBO to go with your Haswell Refresh CPU.

Ok that was helpfull :D *Searching*

BTW hope I posted in right forum tho haha xD

Well the Xeon will run much slower, and cannot be overclocked. The 4770k is basically the same as the 3770k except uses a little less power. PLUS you need to buy a new motherboard.

Upgrading will be a complete waste of over $500

If you really want a CPU upgrade, you will need to get a 4930k or better

so thats $1k

I really think you do not need a better CPU at all. Save your money and get a better GPU

Nothing wrong with a xeon if you don't need overclockability or the integrated gpu and want to save a bit of money.

I will be using it in my other case so I have my reasons. Plus it will be easier to upgrade in the future.

Then wait until the 4970k

It will last longer

definitely wait for next gen (not haswell refresh) or go for a real upgrade,6 core lga 2011

a lot more people buys non K cpu than K ones, if only more ppl would know that for the price of an i5 you can get preety much an i7 haswell(xeon 1230 v3) .so whats with the never buy a xeon lol ?

Currently running 5 xeons at my workplace ~ those PC never gave me any problem in the last 4 years but... their performance is nowhere near as good as my ivy bridge i7.

Having an igpu in the home setup can be a boon while troubleshooting. Not everyone has spare GPU in case their primary GPU bombs.

Are you still running 4 year old xeons?

And I guess the iGPU is handy, but not necessary.

I know, I suggest non-K CPUs more often than K ones. But, not everyone buys according to their needs ~ everyone wants bragging rights... and end up playing RuneScape on their i7 K lol.

An E3 1220 V3 is similar to i7 sans the igpu but it does not perform as well in basic workstation tasks such as rendering, encoding and compiling when compared to an i7. To truly buy a xeon to replace the i7 you will need to go much higher to something like the 1270 or the 1280 but then it will be much more expensive than the i7 4770K itself.

Yes, I am still running four year old xeons ~ they serve our purpose and since we have upgraded our primary machine to E5 2670 V2 ~ we wouldn't need to upgrade our 4 year system for another 3 years. It isn't like we are running the latest software ~ those software are 4 years old themselves xD

Exactly it is very handy in time of need ~ and necessity exists in the time of need :)

 the xeon 1230 v2 is basically an i7 3770 . well..with no igpu and 100mhz less.thats nothing

During stress testing ~ my i7 3770 is 10% faster in rendering, 8% faster in encoding and a whooping 22% faster in compiling. All the components beside the CPU are same in these rigs.

Considering I have to work with very large files which sometime take over 24 hours to process ~ saving 10% time makes a huge difference.

against what xeon ? no way against the 20 threads sandy e5 2670 v2.anyway the 1230 v2 is just a 3.3 i7 3770(if you can say that) . same instructions

IMHO, going from a 3770k to a 4770k or even a 4790k does not makes much sense especially for what you are doing with your desktop.

Either step up the game and go for 2011 socket or stay with that one and wait for the new lineup of intel's extreme processors ;)
