Google chrome no internet

Hi

So as of 2 days I have no internet connection on google chrome. I have full network connection as I can do anything but use chrome.
I went and installed brave just to try with another browser and it works perfectly fine.

Since chrome came preinstalled I can't uninstall it but I did clear cache and storage, removed updates and updated it again. The device got restarted a couple times.
Yet the issue remains, at this point I cant think of anything else but a factory reset which id rather not do since it takes some time to set everything back up as pre-reset.

I'm guessing this is a Chromebook?

Go to your wifi settings and saved networks (if it lets you modify there) or go connectvto wifi again, or if you turn off auto-connect, hold the network name and click modify.

Change the setting from DHCP to static.

This should preserve your current network settings and you should have all number boxes have something in them.

Your subnet mask is 24 if it's not shown.

Set the DNS 1 and 2:

1.1.1.1

1.0.0.1

This sets your dns server to cloudflare, which supposedly (according to them) they don't collect browsing data from you.

But Google definitely does, their dns is four eights in a row.

Every time your device enters a website and starts a connection, it has to have an IP address instead.  Exactly like a phonebook, remember those?

So when you enter a website, if your dns is set to all 8s, then EVERY website you or an app goes to, gets sent to Google first.

Then they do their dns resolving, and from Google, you get the website IP address.

Maybe it is having an issue with dns.

Another thing to try is download RethinkDNS to see network (ip address) and domain name request activity on your device to troubleshoot in the future.

Another great app is duckduckgo, it has a special setting, app tracking protection.

This will create a local vpn to scan for any apps trying to upload data, and it blocks them all.

This way, you can be in control of what data your apps are sending, delete those apps, and pick better ones, that aren't uploading data about your use.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

Software suggestions

Just get f.lux [Link removed due to forum rules] so your screen isn't bright white at night, a golden orange in place of stark 6500K bluish white.

released in 2008 and still being improved.

Dark Reader addon for webpages.  Pick any color you want for both background and text (background and foreground page elements).  Enable the preview mode on desktop for Firefox and Chrome addon, by clicking the dark reader addon settings, Choose dev tools amd click preview mode.

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.
