My gpu is not performing as it should

ivox

My gpu is not running as well as it does for others I've seen online. For example Fortnite on the lowest possible settings, a very low resolution with fps capped at 75, I am getting about 60fps with very heavy spike lags, but when I watched a benchmark on YouTube of a guy with the exact same gpu, his game ran very well over 100 FPS at 1080p without any significant spike lags. His cpu was an i5 4590.

My pc build:

gtx 1050 2gb

i5 4460

16gb ddr3

350w

My friend has the same gpu and even for him it runs much more better.

don't use youtube videos as comparisons , they become outdated and don't represent any form of comparable data.

honestly with the specs you have , you should probably be happy youre getting 60fps. your platform is about a decade old and the gpu is a lower end one that is about 7 years old. It's not going to be able to do much these days so either run everything on low or run lighter/older games.

So how come my friend runs fortnite at 200+ fps with the same gpu as to mine which runs at 50fps on a good day? Also what else am I suppose to compare to, the benchmark videos are at most 1-8 months old which I think is still relevant.

the game runs on the computer.... the whole computer. not just the gpu.

your machine is a decade old , how old is theirs? have you done any form of maintenance on the machine or any form of diagnostics or hardware monitoring at all? have you checked the temps or the health of the drive or done anything with windows?

My pc is about 1 year old, yesterday I've installed a fresh copy of windows 11, recently I've also changed the thermal paste and cleaned the whole case. I've tested the temps, power and usage with afterburner on various games. I don't anything unusual, the temps are fine, the usage and power as well. My friends cpu is even older than mine, and he also only has 8gb of ddr3 ram. I have no idea what could be causing this and I am not planning on upgrading anytime soon.

Not sure how cleaning it makes it some how faster, but it's an old machine.  You have to accept that, no other way to force it to be modern.

What are your friends specs?  What resolution is he playing in?  What is his true FPS (as in onscreen recorded)?

Yes i know ddr3 is ancient technology, but i've built this pc about 1 year ago. I am using an ssd. And as for the windows 11. It runs exactly the same as on windows 10 so i don't see any reason why i should switch back.

I know cleaning the pc doesn't increase the performance, i am not dumb but it needed some cleaning since it had dust all over it. As for my friends pc specs he is running the same gigabyte gpu as me, he has an i5 4th generation cpu, 8gb of ddr3 ram, ssd and im not sure about the psu but I don't think it matters that much.

when you build it isnt relevant, how old the hardware is matters (old as in when released).

the video shows a 8700cpu which is miles better than yours, not to mention ddr4.

You have an i5 4th gen CPU as well, so he has roughly the same machine as yours. just less RAM.  So it's frankly impossible for you both to have even near the FPS in the video I showed.

And yes, an 8700 crushes the living shit out of a 4460 in Fortnite.

I am sorry, but your machine is performing decently.  It's clean, updated with SSD and Win11, so it's running as well as it can.  You did a great job with it, you're just dealing with older tech.

What are your friends 1% lows in the game?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Are you intentionally not answering my question because you are just making things up or just misread what I wrote?

You're bordering on willful ignorance of your PC at this point, trolling at worst.

what else information do you need, my friends game runs smoothly mine does not, that's it.
