i fixed this thank you i just ended up running javafix or whatever its called

i need some help installing java 17 for a minecraft mod extension thing called optifine but nonmatter what I do it wont show the (open with java platform se binary) option is there any fix for this

 

 

i got my java 17 installer from the official oracle website by the way

You're right this probably shouldn't be here, it's mainly for programming related questions. However, i'm sure it would fit nicely in Programs, Apps and Websites or PC Gaming. 

 

With that being said I'll try and help best i can without knowing the status of your system.

 

First press windows key + R, type in cmd, hit enter. Then, type in java. If it says java is not recognised as an internal or external command then go the JRE section of this post, if it lists a bunch of stuff like this (you might have to scroll up):

Click here:

Type in CMD and hit enter

In the command window that pops up type in this command

java -jar OptiFine_1.20.1_HD_U_I5.jar

Make sure the optifine file name is exactly the same as the one in your folder - then press enter:

You should now see the optifine window:

JRE

You might need the JRE, not the JDK. You can get the latest JRE here:

https://www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp

 

Once you have that installed, the optifine jar should be executable and you can double click it. Also make sure you're getting optifine from here:

https://optifine.net/downloads
