In the United States, (not sure about any other countries) you are expected to go to college. The problem is very few people actually have the money to pay for college. The solution loans. Problem #2. As soon as we become adults, we are already in debt by trying to get better jobs. Problem #3. Not sure what the actual number is but again, very few people actually get jobs in the field of  their study. There are no jobs anymore so people who have spent 4 years in college and all the money are expecting to get only to find out that, they have to get a less salary job.

What are your opinions? To me, it's just something messed up.

Speaking about the UK

People are not expected to go, but they are encouraged. Students loans are pretty good, you only have to start paying them back when you are earning over £21000 a year.

Disagree that people do not get jobs in the area they study, A lot of them do, or at least a job related to the qualification they took.

About the being no jobs, there are always jobs, but people try and get jobs doing common things and there is saturation. For example in the UK there is a big need for IT but people are not doing it at university so these jobs are being outsourced to europe to fulfil the demand

You're not forced to go to college.

The problem that the USA have with their colleges is that the students have to pay so freakin much. If state murica wasn't that capitalistic, they would realize that cheap education is important and they would pay the universities themselfs instead of making the students do so.

I'm from germany, i pay 110€ per semester for administration purposes, the rest is paid by communist germany. :P But it's great! I just need a little support from my parents and i can study! No debt afterwards, but big paychecks!

I think the USA should get a bit more communist socialist at some point and pay for things like education and health care.

Edit: More to the 'being forced to study part': You can make good money by not studying and doing an apprenticeship after you finished school.

I study chemistry, not (only) because the entry loans are very high, but because i want to work with something that i like, rather than having to do a full time job that i don't like. Studying is not about money, it's about doing what you like!

who cares...

The cost of higher education here is a lot lower, makes a lot more sense to get a degree.

Mind you I studied chemistry and now I'm looking at an IT service or helpdesk job.

Yes. In the u.s there are a lot of IT jobs available. But that is for the people you studied. And get people that say there are jobs in the u.s, I'm talking about jobs that can support yourself. Including families.

Another issue is how the children are raised. They're shown a janitor working a menial low wage job and told "That's why you go to college" when in fact college isn't for everyone and there's nothing wrong with being a janitor. What the older generation has created is a country where all the young adults feel as though they have to go to college or they've failed themselves even though a good majority of them don't need to and in fact would be better off not going to college. Then they're in debt and in a job market where everyone else is in the same position as them meaning employers don't have to beg for employees, they can just pick the very best, so no one who isn't the very best has a job in the field they want so they have to get a lower paid job probably not in the field they spent immense amounts of money training for.

it's either that or flipping burgers... (a popular quote)

You and your fucking ninjas lol :D

In Aus it's the same. You start your life in debt.  When whitlam was in it was free. Payed education drives into poverty because people don't want to start there working lives with debt so they just don't. Now there thinking of raising it higher cos they suck at money management it seems with all the rises in tax.  My thoughts?  Should be provided with the tax we pay.

In sweden we get paid to go to college

But your taxes are higher. still, Sweden and Norway seem to be forward thinking which would help. About the future rather than the present.

What? ( Sorry I didn't understand the point you are making)

There are no jobs that can actually support someone. Especially a family. So if a dad gets laid off from a pretty decent job, there are no jobs for him to get the same amount of pay or any where close.
