How Autodesk got reactor toolset?

3ds max versions from 5 to 2011 featured Physics simulating tool for animations called reactor tool by Havok(Irish softwre company) .I mean did Autodesk software engineers programmed/modified  it to incorporate it in their 3ds max or it was done by Havok engineers to program this tool into 3ds max?

Also, after 2011 version they replaced Havok by physx from nvidia, so before it why they didn't used Physx instead?

Havok is just an engine/SDK, so they'd have licensed it and called its functions for whatever it was necessary for.

PhysX only was acquired by nvidia in 2008 so likely it took them a couple of years to figure out it was more appropriate/cost-effective and integrate it instead.

They're both engines that are still available and used today.

So, Autodesk programmers programmed it in their own way (i.e options and controls was added by them)? They just based it on Havok SDK ?

  • 9 months later...

Actually in this case it was coded by the Havok team as a rebranding and extension of their plugin toolset.
