Hybrid Semi truck E axle retrofit, Made in BC canada

so theres a company in BC called Edison motors.
they retrofit older semi trucks with a diesel generator and electric motors to make them more fuel efficient.

they just made their first E axle, that can put put into most semi truck applications

Sounds almost like diesel-electric locomotives. Combine this with a big battery and regenerative braking provided from the electric motors would increase fuel efficiency further (Haven't watched the video yet).

This is exactly what they're planning on doing. Use a smaller engine running at its peak efficiency load & speed, and use the battery as temporary energy storage to use when high power is demanded (Acceleration)

So they use a smaller weight saving engine, but add the weight of a generator, batteries and drive motors?

My question is... How are they going to safely traverse the downhill side of a mountain without the advantage of a manual transmission gear reduction (aka downshifting)?

and when the batteries eventually fill up, they can do the same thing that toyota hybrids do, and use the generator to spin the motor over like an air pump, and still have a jake brake.  He has discussed this in a couple of his videos.
