What should I use to cool down my i3

Guest

I have an intel core I3 12thgen I have the basic stock cooler and the one case fan. currently its running over 150F average. Currently while only having  one tab of  firefox open and ICUE open its getting over 200.

I dont play many games since I have a job and what not but I do program arduino's, run 3d printing software and  play some minecraft with shaders. From the beginning with that, it only reached 130 maybe 150 depending on whats happening.

I am realizing that this would not be best interest for my pc. Could people recommend me to some coolers I could use. preferably air fans. My budget would be preferably under 50 usd

Edit  And I have put my 2 fans to max speed all the time

Don't use Fahrenheit to measure temps, use Celcius for computer components.

That said, get yourself a cheap air cooler like a Thermalright Assassin X at $20

Why not Fahrenheit?

No one uses Fahrenheit to discuss computer thermals, even us here in the States that use the Freedom Unit, we all still use Celsius.

Kind of like science. It’s Celsius and Kelvin. Computer geekdom uses Celsius as the unit.

In what kind of computer case? Just 1 fan doesnt sound like a good design for airflow. It also limits how tall of a cooler you could use

Do you have thermal paste applied properly?
Box coolers from Intel are good enough to keep temperatures up to i5s in pretty well, so you should not at all be seeing high temperatures like that from doing fundamentally nothing.

😆

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Please provide your system info. Try repasting the CPU and let us know if that helps.

There are a large number of inexpensive coolers that can handle that CPU, if needed. If you want to have a cooler that will be replaced when you upgrade your CPU, you'll probably save $10-20, but your next build may require a much better cooler unless Intel and AMD decide to cool off their next generation. If you want to prepare for the future, invest in one of the best coolers that do well even with a hot CPU.
