USB killer?

Maxi92

Can anyone please confirm that this can't be a usb killer. I think it can't be one cause it does not have any condensators on it. It would really ease my mind right now

You bought a retail windows key, then instantly took the USB drive apart to inspect it?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

"supposed to be" probably indicates he didn't buy it from an official source.

There are condensators (or capacitors) on this board, I see two on the first picture and twelve in the second picture. There are the SMD components that are partially sand colored (look up 'SMD ceramic capacitor' to get an idea of what they look like).

It's just not the very large capacitors you see on USB killers, these are likely not strong enough to kill a USB port (that's just an estimation). Although if you fear it might be a USB killer, you should also fear it has a virus or other bad things on it.

If I had to guess, the chip in picture 1 is a NAND chip and the other side is a controller of some kind, but that's just a guess.

@minibois @IkeaGnome  @Shimejii@dilpicklethanks guys. I bought it from a 3rd party seller. I actually used it and during the windows installation my lc just shut down. Now my board gives me the usb overload message and shuts the pc down after 15 seconds. I tried to get into bios but my keyboard doesn't work anymore now. It still lights up so it should have power. I tried everything from disconnecting all usb devices, then disconnect all jumpers and reset the bios, cmos. Now I tried another motherboard. This one lights up red and orange like the cpu and ram are not working. That's why I am afraid it was a killer usb. For more information the usb stick was in my pc working for a solid 15 mins before shut down. Guess it's unlikely a usb killer but I don't know what else is wrong now. Parts are first motherboard Asus Tuf b650 plus now it's a msi b650 tomahawk, CPU is 7800x3d and ram is 6000mhz gskill trident. Luckily I didn't connect my rtx 4090 yet. Any ideas what I could do? I'm thinking of letting a repair guy check the parts

I also did try the usb port where the maybe usb killer was in and it works fine with the keyboard giving it power. Just the pc doesn't let me get into bios before shutting down 15 secs later

@dilpickle the pc shuts down 15 seconds in. It doesn't boot so I can't get into the Internet. To answer your question of course I know thx though.
