27" flat vs 34" curved ultrawide

Guanzo

Hello,

I have 24" 1080p monitor I want to buy a new one. Which one should I choose? 27" flat or 34" curved ultrawide?

I had both and think both are cool.

The 34" is definitely more immersive though.

Edit: make sure you get a 1440p model though 1080p looks like ass in that size.

I bought RTX 4080 for play games at 1440p ultra settings. I saw 34" ultrawide monitors they look cool I can't choose.

I would go with the curved 34. This isn't even a question in my mind... now maybe if you were struggling with flat 32 vs curved 34... then I can see something worth talking about. There is very little difference at that point. But 27 is just way too small for me

I went from a 27" 1440p to a 34" ultrawide 1440p as well, maybe next will be a 32" 4K 🙂

34" UW are 30% more wide, curvature is nice for immersion but rather disturbing for browsing and office tasks

I recently got myself a 28 degree 4k monitor over getting a wider monitor. Looking back I think I should have gotten an ultrawide or a very large 16:9 monitor.

My only hesitation with ultrawide's is the lack of height. I like the vertical room

Actually. Looking back. I probably would have gotten like a 42 inch 4k panel. Super big vertically, wide enough. Will be my next choice

I've had it all. Most recently a 34" 3440x1440 ultradewide (curved, of course) and now a flat 42" 4K.

Frankly, ultrawide is just superior if you spend your time gaming and watching movies. Going to a 16:9 display again really felt awkward like I had horse blinders on, the loss of peripheral space was big. I'm used to it now but the experience with my ultrawide made me realize its FAR better for gaming purposes.

The only reason I upgraded away from it is it was a 6 year old PG348Q 100Hz and showing its age and I wanted something larger, the latest panel tech and a higher resolution. Sadly 3840x1600 UW's are basically dead ends and using old panel tech and I was not about to settle for the same resolution (3440x1440) OLED. The higher resolution ultrawides in OLED just don't exist yet in 21:9 so the LG C2 is my stopgap.

So far, now that I'm used to it, its mindblowingly good.

I also went from an 16:9 IPS 27" 1440p @ 165hz (Acer Predator XB271HU) to a ultrawide 21:9 QD-OLED 34" 3440x1440 @ 165hz (Alienware AW3423DWF), but I'm still waiting for it to arrive. The LG C2 42" and similar options seemed to big for me and 4k resolution to hard to drive at high framerates. Also, I didn't want the hassle of TV problems like waking from sleep.

I normally would say 34 inch ultrawide no questions asked but, what ultrawide are you thinking of getting?

If it's VA ultrawide I would actually prefer 27 inch 16:9 IPS as it has more advantages for gaming. I gave up VA ultrawide after one year of usage as the response time is too slow for my liking.

If it's IPS curved then there's LG 34GN850/34GP83A, but don't think it's cheap and there's no alternatives. But  there is flat IPS ultrawides such as Gigabyte M34WQ which is much cheaper.

Finally if you are willing to get AW3423DWF, do it!
