In terms of written words on a page, neither really appeals more or less. GEX is more simple.

In terms of the sound of the word, that entirely depends on how you pronounce them.

 

GEX I would pronounce as "Gecks". GEXO I would pronounce as "Gecks-oh". The former is clearly better here - at least to me.

It's Jecks. Remember that e or i softens things in romance languages. which is what this word tries to be from.

For every "rule" in English (not saying strictly English but that's the language we're discussing here), there is USUALLY a really good example of an exemption.

 

In this specific example, Gecks would, in my opinion, be pronounced the same as Gecko. Jecks does not sound right to me, personally.
