Hi everyone,

So here is the thing. Right now I am at home using my PC. I am connected to the internet provided by my ISP which is named as City Cables.

I have a friend who lives in my city but in a different area. He is at his home and has a laptop. He is connected to the internet using some other internet.

We both are on different networks basically.

I want to connect to his laptop from my PC via REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION to do some work.

If we were using the same internet service, it wouldn't be a problem but we are on different networks.

So what can we do to achieve this?

We have already enabled the Remote desktop connection settings and we have connected to each other machines before as well when he visited my place, but unable to connect from different networks.

I know there are other solutions present as well besides using the Remote desktop, but IS there any way to set up remote desktop in our scenario?

Regards.

Even if you were on the same ISP, you would be on different networks.

It only worked at your place because both your PCs were on the same network. (On the same subnet, behind the same router.) RDP traffic gets blocked at both of your routers.

Before you ask, no you don't want to just open the ports for RDP on both your modems. That's just begging to get hacked.

Also, remember you can't have a local user and a Remote Desktop user logged into the same installation of non-server Windows simultaneously. When you log in, they'll get logged out. If they try to log back in, they'll kick you off.

Use a zero-config remote desktop tool like TeamViewer, or set up a VPN between your place and theirs. TeamViewer doesn't need any special setup, it should "just work". A VPN tunnel would let you connect via RDP just like you did when their computer was at your place.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Can you guide me which VPN I can use? Which one is easy to set up?

few options here:

1: use something else than RDP, that's actually designed to go over the internet (like teamviewer, other options exist.)

2: setup a VPN server on your network for him to connect to, or use something like radmin to have a P2P connection between the two computers. and use RDP over that.

3: port forward whatever port it is for RDP, but big phat no recommend on this one.

The easiest one to set up that I know of is LogMeIn Hamachi.

You're probably better off with TeamViewer unless you want to do other things like play LAN-only multiplayer games.

Ok so basically in my first post I simplified the issue I actually have so that I am able to explain myself easily and get the solution faster.

Let me tell you the actual issue I am facing:

1. I am working from home. Its Sunday so my office is closed. I have a PC (running windows11) at home.

2. I have to connect to a server (running windows server 2012) which is at my office to do my work.

3. The server present at office have actually multiple user ids. One is Administrator and one is Employee1.

4. When I connect to that server using something like Chrome Remote Desktop Connection, I can only connect to either Administrator or Employee1.

5. Other people at office also have access to this server and they also connect to it to work.

6. I usually connect to it with Employee1 user and other people use Administrator.

7. Using Chrome Remote Desktop Connection, only one user can connect at a time. When some other user connect to it, the user already connected to it is disconnected and as I mentioned I use Employee1 id, so when other users connect they can see which Id is currently login and see the desktop of that id, they have to logout and connect to Administrator and when I reconnect I can see Administrator's desktop and I have to re-login to my id.

8. Using Teamviewer is an option but its slow and will cause the same issue of multiple people logging in at the same time.

9. With REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION I can simply enter my user id and password to connect directly to Employee1 and other users can enter Administrator user id and password to connect and work. Both are connected separately.

10. The thing I mentioned in step 9, I usually used to do the same thing to work few days back but one of the internet service there is not working anymore due to which remote desktop connection is not working but chrome remote desktop is working (there are two internet services running on that server, one is down and other is not).

11. So thats why I am looking to implement some other solution that would let me get back to remote desktop connection.

12. I know someone might say talk to the IT department or something but thats not possible right now for "some" reasons, I have to fix it on my own.
