You Tuber offering higher bit rate for premium users

So i just noticed this.. I often need to change my Rez to 4K as it tends to automatically pick 1080p but today i noticed a new option to get a higher bit rate if I had You Tube premium, anyone else have this??

Minor nitpick it's not the You Tuber/channel doing this, it's YouTube

Oh interesting.

I didn't know premium users had an option for a higher bit rate version of 1080p. It seems like it is only available on videos that max out at 1080p. I looked for it on some 1440p and 4K videos but didn't find the option there.

I downloaded all the 1080 versions I see of this video: Aperol - More Than Just a Spritz

It has an AV1 version, a VP9 version, and two AVC (aka H.264) versions (regular and enhanced).

Here are the bit rates for the various files:

AV1 - 767 kb/s

VP9 - 844 kb/s

AVC Regular - 1052 kb/s

AVC Enhanced - 1490 kb/s

I'll probably throw up some comparison screenshots later but the video I picked might not be the best one to demonstrate the difference since it's a slow video with lots of static shots. High bit rate really helps in faster phased things.

Also, something else that's interesting is that they haven't actually locked this down to Youtube Premium users. They are just blocking it client side in the GUI. If you know how to get around that you can view the enhanced version without a subscription.

Doesn't seem to be showing up on Gamers Nexus - perhaps doesn't apply to 1080p60 content either?
