BIOS takes too long to load +

Welp, guess I'll just list the things you could try, don't really wanna flood this thread:

  • Try booting with "Intel Rapid Start" and "fast boot" disabled in the BIOS
  • with CSM disabled in the BIOS
  • with one SSD at a time
  • with one ram module at a time and in different slots
  • Try interchanging parts with another compatible PC (if you have one, of course)

And in the meantime, you might want to revert to the F5 BIOS to save time troubleshooting.

Hi guys,

i recently  build a new PC the parts were suggested to me from here. Everything went smooth during the build and windows installation. PC is running good no freezes no crashes, the only games that i have tried until now is Dota2 and Overwatch  both running good. The issues that i have noticed until now are 1 it takes an awful long time to load BIOS about 10 minutes and 2 a bit difficult to describe....the cursor when i write it "leaves" some black lines between the letters but it does that only in dark background colors (photos attached)

Issue 1:

After i put the parts together was time to install windows, went into BIOS there i noticed it took about 2-3 minutes, anyways i moved on with the windows installation after that i checked a few times to load BIOS and it was always like 2-3minutes, it was bothering me....from what i remember entering BIOS was a matter of seconds. I thought i will just update BIOS to the latest version and maybe that will be it, and so i did but now its takes more than 10 minutes to load BIOS, is this normal or have i done something wrong?

I did the BIOS update using the @BIOS software from the AORUS APP Center

X.M.P Profile1 Enabled and SAM Enabled  (the long loading times for the BIOS where also 10min before those 2 were enabled)

OS: Windows 10 x64

Current BIOS version: F6b (Date: Mar 23, 2023)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor

COOLER: NZXT Kraken 240 78.02 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

MOBO: Gigabyte X570S AORUS ELITE AX ATX AM4 Motherboard

RAM: Kingston FURY Renegade 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory

SDD for OS: Crucial P5 Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

SDD for media: Crucial P5 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

GPU: XFX Speedster MERC 319 CORE Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card

PSU: MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Monitor: Asus TUF Gaming VG32VQR 31.5" 2560 x 1440 165 Hz Curved Monitor

Complete list of parts can be found in my profile or here: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/kdJfrH

Issue 2:

Photos Attached

Bonus Issue:

Just happened now for the first time, as i was writing this post i had to go out for about 15 min left the PC on, when i got back the PC was on standby but i noticed the lights from the GPU were off, normally they stay on, moved the mouse the screen went on and the lights from the GPU went on too but there were lines all over the screen did a restart back to normal !!!

Cheers

Are both your SSDs working correctly? Could you please check if they're healthy with CrystalDiskInfo and test them with CrystalDiskMark?

Some long BIOS boot times might have to do with drives not initializing properly.

You might want to try testing the GPU and its VRAM for potential errors with OCCT. Make sure you don't set the settings too high as OCCT can cause overdraw which may damage the card. It's fine to set VRAM usage to 95%, though.

Hi,

i did all the tests, it seems everything are in order.....i think. Uploaded Images from the results.

For the GPU i have it "tuned" at Default from the AMD Software.

Cheers

And don't forget that you can reset the BIOS values by jumpering the clr_rtc pins

with one SSD at a time

Hi,

ok so i finally found the time to work on it a bit.

Turned on the PC-> DEL key, waiting time to load BIOS was about 10 min.  as usual!

I thought i will start with the SSD's

Removed the 1 SSD M.2 (D:/) that was installed on the second M.2 slot and left only 1 SSD M.2 (Windows OS) on the first M.2 slot.

Turned on the PC, BIOS loading time was about 2 min.

Installed  the previously  removed SSD to the third M.2 slot

Turned on PC, BIOS loading time was about 2min.

I thought that is interesting....pretty much i was ready to call the SSD defective or the slot on the motherboard.

Removed the SSD from the third M.2 slot and i installed it again to the second M.2 slot

Turned on PC, BIOS loading time was a few seconds!!!!!!!

How is this possible i simply do not get it kinda funny..... but loading BIOS time is fixed!

Glad you've fixed the issue!

But do note that this is still a sign of possible defect, if not, it's likely a matter of incompatibility.

Now you have put me again in thoughts.... 🙂

My poor explanation in my mind was that maybe i had not installed correctly the 2nd M.2 SSD or that the contact was not good enough or there was a bit dust so  one of these reasons was preventing it from a full contact of the "pins" SSD/M.2 Slot Motherboard  ergo having the issue, it seems a bit far fetched since the space between the SSD and the M.2 slot is very tight but that was my guess/explanation.

In the mean time i still have not figure it out about the black lines on dark background colors
