Why ASUS lists this card with a wattage range between 200-300w is beyond me. Nvidia lists the 1070 with a max wattage of 150. (Website Nvidia)

Both Guru3D, tomshardware and Techpowerup have similar wattage numbers for gaming loads with this exact card (techpowerup/Guru3D/tomshardware).

160watt is a bit lower, could be due to thermals.

Am I missing something here, or is Asus' information just wrong?

*EDIT: Techpowerup article is 1070 ti & added tomshardware review and testing

I am beginning to think that manufacturers intentionally overspec the power draw so you wont have any issues on your end. I ak starting to believe, at least on the amd side, power draw is reported as whole system power draw. XFX for instance recommends a 6-700w or so psu for my 6700xt, however i am hovering at around 200-250 on the whole system

Could be that, sure. If that is the case they should atleast state that. Not stating it raises questions by consumers like this case.

Up to, does not mean it will reach it.

Also less power used is better.
Watch the FPS and frame-times, those are way more important!

Also manufacterers lie.
