Wanting to upgrade from 1080p to 1440p gaming

Go to solution Solved by SasquatchTV,

This isnt the worst deal out there.

PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Dragon 16GB Graphics Card LN112389 - AXRX 6800XT 16GBD6-3DHR/OC | SCAN UK

I personally have an RX 6900XT from Asrock and its running 2 32" 165hz 1440p monitors over display port, and a 27" 60hz 1080p over hdmi, gets great fps in everything I've played with settings near max, can always tweak those down though if your frames are dropping.

Honestly though, just try running your setup at 1440p with the 3060 before spending any money, it might surprise you.

Budget (including currency): £700ish

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mix of strategy and FPS titles.

Other details

Ive been playing with 1080p for a long time and am wanting to upgrade.

My current system is
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
x570 Tomahawk Wifi
32gb 3600 ddr4
850 Watt Corsair RM850X psu
MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Gaming X TRIO 12GB GDDR6  (323mm long - it fits in the case with maybe another 10mm space.)
1080p monitor.

How it would run with Dying Light 2 or Dead Island 2 would be good indicators.

Im getting a AOC 27" Q27G2E/BK 27” 2560x1440 VA 144Hz 1ms FreeSync LED Backlit Widescreen Gaming Monitor so am wanting a GPU to do 1440p at a solid 60+ on modern games.  I have no big preference over amd/nvidia i just want something that works and fits 🙂 Hope you can help clear up the murky waters of GPU buying.

Just buy the fattest GPU you can, which right now on the market is 6950XT or 6900XT, with 7900XT at 50 GBP extra.

I'm running a 6700XT with a 5600X and have no problems getting enough fps for my 165Hz screen on most games.

6950xt is going for around 700$ atm iirc so thats probably your best bet and it's supposed to be quite beasty as a GPU

Try it with the current card and see what it gives

Now as for gpu the 6950xt is by far the best gpu in budget.

Would that run with the PSU that i have though?

Yes the rm850x is even enough for a 4090
