From what I know, it's in early stages and the only public info is the stuff Linus has said on the WAN show. There isn't a public build yet, and even the company name hasn't been announced. All that's known is an industry friend of his said they were making this software, Linus invested and gave them a couple feature requirements for public release.

No substantial info has been revealed other than it's going to be an easy NAS software for running on your own hardware, Linus invested in it, some devs came from unraid and it was being kept under wraps so far.

I like the sound of it. At the same time... I'll play a wait and see game. Currently TRUENAS is good enough.

I think the NAS software investment would be perfectly complemented by a company which is going out of business because the founders overloaded themselves with work, but the product is amazing and allegedly have running orders http://kobol.io/ . Hope this could be a win-win situation for both.

This looks good. Only issue I have is it is not upgradable. As in cpu or ram. Would love to get ahold of one to play around with.

Any news regarding this topic?

Nope. I’m sure once it’s a thing, there will be a lot of posts here about it. I wouldn’t expect anything for at least a year. They are not going to release a NAS OS that isn’t fully baked…

Yeah, true. I hoping for a website, and a forum were we can talk about the OS. I also don't expect a release this year.

I am sure there will be lots of convo on here once it is released, even once it hits a beta release (if they were to do that).

Anyone heard yet any rumors?

Nope. It’ll be a long time… I’d be shocked if we hear anything before mid 2024.

Remember, they are developing an OS that needs A LOT of testing and validation… I doubt they are even past the first round of development.

Reskinned truenas. I was hoping for something truly new.

I was hoping for a new filesystem/raid system(I know thats a lot of work to do well though, don't want to mess up a filesystem and lose data) This leaves us with the same compromises that ZFS has. New UI features could be nice though.
