Hmm, I was just wondering. When you install nVDIA drivers with Geforce Experience, are the drivers installed and ready to use, or do the new drivers not take effect until after you've restarted the computer? 'Cuz, it would be interesting if you didn't have to restart the computer just due to using a different brand. I would think it's a thing with Windows, or just how software works.

And I guess the stuff like ShadowPlay and shield streaming aren't really for me, honestly. I don't especially like playing games on small screens, our internet (and router) are pretty crap during peak hours, and I don't record my gameplay at all.

But, I will agree with you that AMD's drivers suck sometimes. Oh man, just last year...I got a new graphics card for my birthday, and I mistakenly used an AMD program to remove the drivers on Windows 8, when it was only supposed to be used on Windows 7, which caused a teeny, tiny error that could be easily fixed. Yeah...no. It took me over a MONTH to figure out what exactly was going on, and by then I had returned two of the Radeon HD 7790s that I had gotten because of white lines that appeared only in the lower right corner of my screen, but that was caused by a driver error or something, because they stopped after I changed it. But, for some reason, which I know assume to be bottlenecking (I had an FX-6100), Skyrim would freeze for a second when I quickly turned around, and it was the same thing with Dishonored. But, back on topic, it completely screwed up my Windows 8 install. I managed to fix it; I had it good, because others had to reinstall Windows, while I only had to refresh it.

Yeah, those are my experiences. I've never had anything more significant happen with AMD's drivers, except that it is somewhat inconvenient to have to restart once to remove the drivers, and then restart again to have them completely installed and usable. But, I don't care that much; they offered a graphics card that was competitively priced at the time I bought it, and I am really happy with it.

Edit: Though, once I fixed everything, Skyrim would lag much less when I swiveled around, so it was partially caused by the messed-up Windows. And, once I get my next graphics card, I'm going for nVIDIA to see what they're like.

Yeah when you upgrade through geforce experiencing they are applied immediately, happens on my desktop 780ti and my laptop 650m

Yeah AMD drivers have always been a bit shitty, my performance varies SO much on my 7970m crossfire cards in my laptop its crazy, also crossfire tends to balls up alot and sometimes I have had CCC just go "Nope no driverrs are installed" when I was using the PC the day before

Their cards are great and are very good value but I still think nVidia have the edge, they also tend to run cooler and consume less power however they do charge a premium to some degree though it seems to be less and less these days.

Yeah I really dont have a preference in terms of company, i just think at the moment nvidia and intel seems to come out tops 90% of the time, though an equivelent AMD will not be far behind if value is key

I can see this turning into the usual AMD vs Nvidia nonsense. There is no "better" brand and as such they both have their pros and cons. If you're going to give some BS about how Nvidia is better than AMD or vice-versa then at least back it up with some evidence, not just go on some fanboy rampage. That said, everyone will have different opinions but constant AMD vs Nvidia BS never gets anywhere.

You're the first one who brought that up... this thread is not about what's "better". It's about why you chose Nvidia over AMD and explaining it. It's a way for me to give it a thought about trying AMD, which the users have helped me with their opinions.

I have a lot of amd and nvidia cards. specially dead ones I use for collecting (got em for like free if not around 5 bucks or so).

nvidia and amd has been fucking my wallet ever since then giving it a double penetration matey.

Pretty much they do it to everyone else wallet.

right now I'm sticking with nvidia for fun.

Live your life like a dream.

Always used nvidia and Intel. Only ever strayed once and was disappointed at the heat/noise/performance of amd. Just consumerism sticking to what you know works well.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I use nvidia because that's the brand ive been most familiar with.

I'm open to reasoning to try AMD, but that reason cannot be just the price. For reliability and performance most of the time is Nvidia what I read of. I'm willing to try AMD but the more I read...

I think people feel the need to complain about something mostly because they either haven't done their research correctly before buying or they are a complete fanboy and look for an excuse to complain. I knew my 290X would get hot, so I instantly put it under water and now it runs cool and like a dream, overclocked comfortably to 1200/7000. I am by no means a hater, I just feel for me that AMD has more options that would benefit me, like Mantle. The one thing I don't like about AMD is their drivers, had nothing but issues, including the most recently one where you get random (but rare) bluescreens caused by the GPU. Nvidia PhysX feels to me like it's unloved and hasn't had enough attention and that not a lot of games properly implement it, and that Gsync just seems gimmicky and something that can be done the same at a much lower cost (like AMD's Freesync), but i'll decide which I prefer when AMD actually demo it.

You're using that card at 1080p? It must destroy every game you throw at it.

Temps, AMD GPUs run at Temps that  i can't get compfy with, even though they say it fine and even with a non reference, i don't buy it, Plus, something about nVidia is Really cool and Stands for RAW Hardcore Power

eeerm, I don't mean to rain on your parade, but thats ONLY the reference cards running at temps that could be considered dangerous. My XFX R9 290 ran at 78°C under load, now at 49°C on water and that's one of the worst non-reference coolers. Stop spreading BS about AMD, either be fair and inform yourself, or just keep it to youself.

No problem at all, I hate fanboys, can't stand them, i'm all for supporting peoples choice, be it Nvidia or AMD, both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Also, as you also said so rightly yourself it's all about what features you want for yourself, in other words, there is no way anyone can say 'Nvidia/AMD is better, end of'.

This forum needs more people like who you who are open to either side and not a complete fanboy. :D

Fanboyism doesn't let you explore new areas, it's dummy, I have my preferences but that doesn't mean I can't look out other brands.

Those Toxic and Vapor cards look oh my so good @_@ I'm a sucker for aesthetics I admit.

I think its diffecult to explain....Some might have bad experiences with AMD, but I haven't really.

Some of it is habit and using what you are used to, but Nvidia have not disappointed me.

If I was going to buy a GPU at this very moment, I would go with Nvidia due to the 290 getting hot although this was taken care off when the non reference coolers came.

But I would not mind having an AMD card. If I think that their card is the best i my price bracket at the time, then I will buy it.,

Yeah...those bastards. Using our money to develop stuff.

i wouldn't consider 78C°, with a non reference under load OK and call it BS mate, it's a fact and every body knows it that AMD GPUs Tempt to run Hotter in the first Place, and this is me being fair,i own a R9-290 and i don't use it, only because of the Temps, quick comparison : Titan runs at 78C° under load fan speed 100%, noise 38 db VS R9-290 reference runs at 95C° under load fan 100%, Noise 48 db, i think you're getting the picture .

I use AMD because it was £130 cheaper than a competing nVidia card at the time. :)

I used nVidia for a long time and I think my next card will be nvidia because I'd like to move to ITX with something cooler etc.
