Question about an ethernet cable to wifi!! Please help

Overenthusiastic

So I just moved in to a studio basement and the owner has an ethernet cable running down to the studio. He said I can use the ethernet cable. Is there a way I can use this to create my own little wifi system?

Yes. Assuming that the owner has a router upstream (highly likely), it would be best to get something that is either an wifi access point only, or a wifi router that can run as an access point only.

If you get a wifi router of your own and dont/can't set it to access point only, be warned you may have connectivity issues in certain situations (inbound connections, gaming, etc).

That said if the main router is setup to disable uPNP, odds are double-NAT is a none issue anyway and an advantage as it doesn't put your WiFi devices openly on the same network as everyone else in the building.

If had to have this setup I'd use a router and probably a VPN on that router, as you're putting a lot of trust in your landlord otherwise.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7
