1) Make it stiffer.

2) Slightly better cooling.

3) Make it look more awesome.

1. Makes it look cool

2. Adds some strength to the card

3. Maybe can maybe improve temps maybe

The difference is within margin of error temps wise, i tested it on one of my 780 lightnings since i was taking it apart anyway, mem and vrm of the card changed about 2 degrees with it off which again is margin of error imo. i then slapped a waterblock on it and stopped caring :)

Hm, 2C is ok, not worth buying a backplate for though. Some backplates have thermal pads, maybe those would be helpful. With a WB I don't care either lol I just have one for looks.

yeah it came with the card and i didnt really wanna take it off, the lightning backplate is just so great looking.. had to redrill the screw holes to use it with the waterblock though :/
