Windows Explorer (Group By) is really starting to piss me off

MrSimplicity

Check out WinSetView on GitHub. I also hated the group by feature and this let me disable it across the entire OS. I hated how it was the default.

Please for the love of god does anyone know how to out right disable grouping. I set my view as I want then when I go back to the folder later it is grouped again. I've done the "Apply to Folders" thing and after hitting OK it just reverts it back to being grouped by date. I'm seriously about to go insane over this.

Windows 11 really thinks it knows better what you need. don't worry about it. submit to your overloards.

nah but that's technically a bug. it should remember when set, you're not doing anything wrong.

Under "Sort" choose any other option, the "Group By" will be ignored.

It's most likely that the view that did not get updated by using the "Apply to Folders" button was a file dialog. That's normal behavior for Windows 7 - 11. But it's also possible to hit the 5000 saved views limit or even encounter corruption in the  registry keys that contain those views. WinSetView will reset the views correctly regardless of the reason.
