one 8 pin connector short / fine to use one from another PSU?

Jun Ishiwata

So as the title says , just bought a 4080 (rip wallet i know but needed one for work) and cant find my cooler master box with the other 8 pin connectors. I recently bought a sharkoon one for another pc so my question is if its fine to use a spare 8 pin connector from that one?

So my psu is a Cooler Master Silent Pro M1000 and the sharkoon one is a Sharkoon WPM Gold ZERO

Evidently i know that changing psu cables is a bad thing but i wasnt sure if 8 pin connectors are actually universal or not.

Thanks in advance.

The 8pin PCIE side that connects to your GPU is.
The side that connects to your PSU isn't.

It's a bad idea because they are not. Wiring on the GPU side will obviously be the same, but wiring on the PSU side might not be. Could kill your 4080

Plus, your cooler master uses 6pin connector for the PSU side for PCIE, the sharkoon uses 8pin connector for the PSU side PCIE.

You can't plug it in even if you want to YOLO it.

Makes sense ! Thanks , Guess i'm buying a new PSU. Any psu with the right connector without using the 3x 8 dongle you guys can recommend?

Why not try first asking Cooler Master if they can send / sell you one PCIE cable for your PSU ??

Or you know... buy one from CableMod

Thanks in advance.

Call CoolerMaster and buy a cable from them.  Or if you trust AliExpress...
