Just found out that one of the pins on my atx cable is not in the socket. Manual says its a 12v pin. Computer runs fine and from the looks of it i cant insert it. Any tips?

if it runs fine without it then it shouldn't be plugged in because the outcome is unpredictable. I would just wrap it in electrical tape and tuck it behind another wire and forget about it.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

It is not normal, turn off the computer and make sure you are trying to plug it into connector using the correct orientation. I would NOT use that thing like that. +12v pin out in the open screams shorts to me.

This is the opposite of good advice.

Do this. Remove the plug from the board and insert loose pin into the correct position. It should sorta snap into place.

That's not normal. It most likely got pulled loose when you were inserting the cable.

Remove the cable from the motherboard and see if you can insert the pin back in to the connector housing.

There's only 2 +12V wires on the motherboard connector so you're doubling the current on the other pin which could potentially cause overheating and failure. That's also what is used for the sense wire (the 2nd wire coming off the terminal) so your PSU isn't monitoring the +12V voltage (not a huge problem, most PSUs dont do this anyway).

You can drive car without a seatbelt, this is more like saying your car runs fine if your car's firewall didnt exist. Not only its structural, youll literally get burned by the fumes and the engine heat without it.

while very NOT a good idea to leave this as-is (because it really is a matter of "not sure if this would be the only bad one in the bunch") the 24-pin has plenty of 12 volt lines, so for the short term (i.e. the time it takes to sort out the RMA) it's fine, but i wouldnt run this long term because clearly the cable is faulty, and you now have this bare piece of exposed +12v dangling around inside your computer.

I would not, as like said above you could end up melting the connector that is plugged in.  I guess they would still have to replace it if it did since its their fault and they can't prove it didn't happen before you knew, but still you never know how badly it might burn (while unlikely to catch fire its not impossible) and inhaling melting plastic is not great.

It's 2. Minifit Jr. Is rated for up to 9A per terminal, so with only one 12V connection, that's just 108W

oh, i had in mind it was more.

either way, 108W should be plenty for what your regular average desktop is pulling from the 24-pin.

Taking another look, it appears to be a ground pin.  Either way just plugging it back in should be fine.  I'm just a little wary how it came out in the first place.

in the manual it says that its the 10th pin and a +12v https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/PROB650M-AWIFI.pdf

but if i search for 24 pin connector pinout on google it shows 3rd pin and a ground. https://www.google.com/search?q=24+pin+connector+pinout+&client=opera&hs=Tlf&sxsrf=AJOqlzUep6Zy1Lqm21HrDsHFSW-UkDPBLQ%3A1678529795043&ei=A1UMZOeiAruPxc8PhoWagAQ&ved=0ahUKEwinsLbh0tP9AhW7R_EDHYaCBkAQ4dUDCA4&uact=5&oq=24+pin+connector+pinout+&gs_lcp=Cgxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAQAzIECCMQJzIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjoKCAAQRxDWBBCwA0oECEEYAFCQB1iQB2D_CGgCcAB4AIABa4gBa5IBAzAuMZgBAKABAcgBBMABAQ&sclient=gws-wiz-serp#imgrc=-ggsNiJPpDpRSM

It depends if you're looking at the connector on the motherboard or the connector on the cable. The pinout you're seeing on the google image results is for the cable but you're looking at how it's laid out on the motherboard. It's flipped. If you unplug the cable and look at it facing the cable it'll match up to the google image results showing the cable pinout.

It's +12V. It's the 10th pin. The 2nd wire coming off it is the 12V sense pin.

Ah I made a noob mistake of looking at a plug pinout thinking it was the motherboard I guess. 😉

Thanks everyone, i just pushed it back in. it did not click but its coming off easily anymore. is there a way for me to check if its in correctly also should i still rma it? i think the reason why it came off is that cable was a bit too tight in the case.
