Jellyfin Public Access

Panc

Hi there,

I have an unraid server and I have a jellyfin server up and running with the exception of being able to remotely access it. I have got vaultwarden set up and that works great with a reverse proxy (SWAG docker container) using a duckdns subdomain. I'd essentially like to do the same thing but with Jellyfin. Can anyone help me out? Very new to this type of thing 😅

You can replicate what you did with vaultwarden for Jellyfin or any other application.

You just need a second domain and point that to your home network ip.

The reverse proxy will pick that up. Now you need to configure your reverse proxy to forward that domain to your Jellyfin I instances.

It does not matter where your jellyfin is. Can be a different server, VM, docker, etc.

Setup something like OpenVPN server inside Ubuntu Server 22.04. That way when you connect to that VPN server you have a secure access to your whole network and your old and new services without any problems. Easy.

I would suggest this approach if it is for your personal access. I have openvpn with selective routing setup on my Asus router and it works great. On a self run server you will have more control over the setup process but it can be a bit more difficult.

I would suggest OP to look in to Wireguard instead of OpenVPN if he wants a VPN. It's way easier to set up on  Unraid. And works quite well.
