Wifi Network Adapter keeps crashing when I play games.

NajIsEvil

Hello,

First time poster here. I'm wondering if I could get any help with my problem.

Every time I run GTA 5 and gamble at the casino my Wi-Fi adapter just stops working, and when I check it, the Wi-Fi button doesn't exist and if I check the

device manager it has the yellow caution sign, even though I already updated my INTEL R WI-FI 6 AX201 160MHZ to its updated version.

I've had this problem for quite some time now and I don't know if there is a PERMANENT solution to this. I've done the network reset and the clean uninstall install of it,

nothing works that would fix it for good.

It does not matter what games I play whether it be offline or online, steam or riot or epic. It just crashes.

The windows I'm using is 10.

Please Help.

What wifi-adapter, what pc. The more you share the better your help will be.

Else the recommendation would be; "use another USB port".

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

alternative USB port would be my first attempt at problem solving also. I have a ton of USB items from over the years and although USB in most cases is supposed to be backwards compatable I often have to swap a port on older items wirelss modules for the mouse or i forget my little travel USB drive is in the wrong port and only works on A not B etc.

  1. Is this adapter integrated to the motherboard?
  2. Which motherboard?
  3. Where did you get the drivers from?
  4. Have you updated the rest of the motherboard's drivers?

it could be a number of things. Poor Signal., so if connected what is your laptop telling you regarding the signal strength.

How far are you from the router itself. are you in a different room.

Does the issue persist if for example you are sitting at a table uisin the laptop and the source of your wifi is in the same room.

is it the only happening when you play a game or does it happen if you simply browse the internet?

From my perspective it is hard to ubnderstand if it is an issue with the laptop the router or its wifi and simply bad wifi connection.

And my last question is where is the router ? is it in a cabinet or placed on something so the antennae have room. Modern routers are robust but position can influence results.

the router placement is placed where it is convenient to our room and outside by the living room, the signal, it doesn't matter if its 1 bar short or it is on its max strength, once i startup the game and start to play when it involves using the in game credits, the internet and its Wi-Fi button disappear.

for now the fix that seems to be working is that i would just do idle stuff before i start playing any games, that way it would not have to immediately kill the Wi-Fi.

It almost sounds like a form of filter to prevent gambling as you mention a spefic item as gambling but might have just been a bug in the game.

As you seem to have solved the issue that sgood.

Anyways there are forums and it seems that many people around the world have had issues with th gambling in GTA and here is a quick snip from one forum post at the Rockstar forums

It's because countries law... Poland, Luxemburg, Belgium have blockade... So I don't know what to do , I'm pretty sure that USA is allowed to play in casino xD

Guys , I've been thinking about using a USA VPN for example, will I get banned? Do you know sth about it?

But casinos are legalized in Portugal. And this is just a game, it has nothing to do with laws, just age (+18).

I have had this happen as well.  And to the point that I had to reset windows (and I have a full backup install but it's the one with this issue) to be able to use the usb wifi adapter again.  I've also had the adapter not be accessible where I can't enable wifi at all, nothing, yet the OS detects the hardware.

No idea what the issue is, but I'm going to upload all the default stuff to microsoft by finding all the logs, and copying them to my reset install.  I'm sure this is a more common issue.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

Just get f.lux [Link removed due to forum rules] so your screen isn't bright white at night, a golden orange in place of stark 6500K bluish white.

Dark Reader addon for webpages.  Pick any color you want for both background and text (background and foreground page elements).  Enable the preview mode on desktop for Firefox and Chrome addon, by clicking the dark reader addon settings, Choose dev tools amd click preview mode.

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.

Seems to be a common windows bug with certain wi-fi devices.  Sometimes my usb connection works great for a few hours and other times it won't see any networks until I reboot.
