So basically, this thread probably has already been there...

But i just want to show my experiences on mac

So i got a Mac Mini (2009) and i installed OSX Mavericks on it and frankly, its not all that bad.

I Can use it, and it functions, and even though this has old hardware, the os feels very smooth, and responsive (eghh, windows suffers there)

Another thing I like is the simple style...

But still, windows will always win for me,

Mac has really bad compatibility for most games (nothing more to say)

Also, some of the techy features in windows are missing from mac. To boot from a DVD, you have to hold 'c' ? And no BIOS...

What are your experiences with Mac, and what OS do you use?

I'm serious, why? I think their UI is a bit strange, and a single button mouse and trackpad, a concept from the 80s.

It's not actually a single button. It works just like a regular mouse. Apple calls it magic, and people believe it in some way because it looks like one button (it is), but it detects which side is clicking down I think due to touch sensitivity (but I could be wrong on that, it might work another way).

I kinda liked it. Once I got used to it, it was like I had been using it as much as Windows.

Two switches, but it's a solid piece of plastic that uses leverage to click, as I remember.

I personally like the UI, it's so smooth and Linux-like. Also iMovie (the video editing software included with Mavericks) is so easy to use yet it has way more features than Windows movie maker.

But the mouse really pisses me off when playing minecraft. I might want to place an item by pressing the right button but it registers it as a left click. The scroll wheel (which isn't actually a wheel) is extremely sensitive too. It will just swap items and stuff whenever it wants.

it's not really linux like since it's based on FreeBSD.

I know that, it's just the UI that seems like Ubuntu or Fedora. Especially in the File Explorer.

I've been using a Macbook since 2011, and only recently did I switch back over to Windows.

Honestly, I have no complaints on OS X. I almost prefer it to Windows-- the only issue here it that (like others) it doesn't support most of my games. Then again, I might just run OS X through a VM (or vice versa) and just see how things go.

Also, about the Magic Mouse complaints, I own one and I love it. Internet browsing on the mouse (among other productivity based applications) is the best experience I have ever had. Once you learn to use it properly, you will never want to browse the internet or scroll through video clips with a non-magical mouse. The best experience I have had hands down.

I haven't really played around much on a Mac, so I have no idea what its really like. I currently have Windows 7 on my laptop but I installed Stardock's Object dock program on it and now my desktop looks more like OSX than Windows. Take a look.

I love Mac. And I'm using a 2006 MacBook; I'd take it any day over my mom's 2010 Vaio sitting on the coffee table. She has a MacBook Pro now :P love the speed, simplicity, style, and efficiency of Mac, and Apple's applications.

Booting using 'c' is more simple than editing priority lists

No BIOS is good, but holding 'option' will bring up a menu with a list of bootable media

Games are getting more and more frequently released on Mac, and companies like Feral Interactive will port them, and a Mac version will be out a few months after release.

The problem I have with MacOS is the memory management and process scheduling. They are quite poor, which requires reboots to fix.

This is something you notice when only when do some massive multitasking with system demanding software.

But, when brought up, Apple fanatics comes and say how it's the computer I have that is faulty, or how I am lying and they have no problem when they "multi-task".

But beside that, I find it fine. It's not flexible, but if you don't care about that, it works fine.

My only issue with Apple products is the pricing. Spending $1,800 or so for what essentially is a mediocre system (hardware wise anyway) doesn't make much sense to me. I can spend less on a custom built PC and get more for my money.
