Looking for some pointers on what is going wrong with my system as running out of ideas!

The 5800X3D that I added to my machine around 2 months ago (to replace 5900X) is running extremely hot! Often stabilising at 91C during gaming for resource hungry games (not necessarily CPU hungry just generally hungry) even for short gaming sessions of 20 mins and where CPU usage is barely even breaking 30% according to MSI Afterburner

The system specs are;

* Case: Fractal Design R6

* CPU: 5800X3D

* GPU: MSI Suprim X 4090 (stock settings)

* MOBO: ASUS Crosshair Hero VIII X570 ATX

* RAM: Corsair Vengeance 3600Mhz (2 x 16gb sticks)

* Cooler: Corsair H150i Pro XT (installed with Artic Silver 5 paste)

* Storage: Yes

* PSU: BeQuiet StraightPower 11 1000W

So far what I've tried is;

* MOBO BIOS update

* Re-pasting and seating the cooler

* Applying -30 core offset on all cores in PBO2 tuner

* Playing with fan settings (trying to not let them get too loud as in same room as the system)

* Ordered some Noctua thermal paste which i'll test this week once it arrives just in case it's the Artic Silver 5 paste which the tube is a few years old at this point

Attached screenshots from monitoring SW and of the fan curves applied in iCUE for the AIO and in Fan Control for case fans (all fans are Noctua so not the cause of the problem)

Welcome any feedback on what the culprit might be, hopefully the CPU as still under the warranty unlike the AIO 🙂

This sounds like the cooler is failing. My NHD15 keeps my 5800x3D under 83. In most gaming loads its under 77c (although if its above 72F in my room it can get up to  81) and thats with 60-100% fan speed (still quiet enough that gameplay easily overpowers fans noise).

I would look at the cooler first rather then the chip as its working as intended.

Recheck your AIO mount. Do you hear the pump moving at all??

Id agree with the last too, Id double and triple check your AIO, Make sure its seated properly and the pump is actually running (how old is the cooler?)With My Hyper 212 Evo mine stays under 82c(except in cinebench)

 ~Extra L3 cache is exciting, every time you load up a new game or program you never know what your going to get, will it perform like a 5700x or are we beating the 14900k today? 😅~

Cooler is only 2 years old, is it really likely to be that?

When i switch between quiet and extreme pump speed in iCUE i can hear the tone of the pump change and iCUE shows rpm increasing

Dose the temp change when you do this?

Don't want to count my chickens too soon but i decided I'm going to change the orientation of the AIO from top mounted exhaust in push config to front mounted intake in pull config, just did it after a lot of careful maneuvering in a tight case, fired up witcher 3 next gen (which i played earlier today and had 91C cpu temp after just a few minutes) and as if by miracle my cpu temp is now reading a chilly 65C!!! How is that even possible? Air in the loop?

It could be a lot of factors but air in the loop is the least likely. The most likely is the cooler wasn't making proper contact. (Which also means the thermal medium wasn't getting the proper hug between AIO and CPU >w<

As to how hot the CPU was getting the 5000 series is said to be under intense load rated to survive and handle temps up to 95 C's 💦I know hot asf.

I love PC building and gaming.
REMEMBER botttlenecks can happen at all points of a PC part. Make sure you are at equilibrium. For all parts unless you intend to upgrade at a later point. Also QA Tested AAA Games.

But i didn't remount the block i only moved the rad and fans...

@smithg97your fan speed for the AIO can definitely be readjusted.

Basically, 20% fan speed at 80*C, and 40% at 90*C. Then pretty much off until 75*C.

If it's at 80*C, I'd put the fans at 40% ~ 50% speed at that point.

Pump speed doesn't affect temperatures much.

It's only a problem if the flow is too slow (i.e. HOT coolant sticking around the CPU for too long).

Keep in mind the 5800X3D has a 3D layer of memory / cache on top of the CPU die compared to your old 5900X.

So it's another layer of heat, another later of insulator.

Its permeation. Every single AIO ever made will suffer from this at some point.

Well the Noctua air cooler arrived today, it's installed and cpu is still settling at 80C while gaming so an improvement but still toasty and still spiking to 91C on occasion but now another problem has arisen, it seems like my 4090 has created some sort of EMI field so that whenever i launch a game my speaker (klipsch passive bookshelf) starts buzzing! Not having much luck this week!

My 5800x3D on a Noctua NH-D15 hits 84° spikes on a -30 offset while gaming but is mostly 60-70° when I'm playing CPU bound games like MMOs.

Also when you check google you will find lots of people with the same issue. It's hard to transfer off the heat even with an AIO.

My X3D is a cool runner, you guys got hot ones. Mine games in the 50s-60s. Either that or Noctua sucks. We already know Corsair is shit.

A friend of mine RMA'd a 5800X3D and was given a 5900X instead. kind of sucks but I guess they justify it based on value.
