Upgrading to a 7900 XT

Mista G

Currently have a 6800 XT and wondered whether it is worth replacing for a 7900 XT?

Though it is 26% or so better than the 6800 XT, seems like it would be a waste of money to me. If you're gonna spend $900 on the 7900 XT, what's an extra $100 to grab the 7900 XTX and get almost 50% better performance?

It's not an extra £100 in the UK as the XTX was £1050 now upwards of £1200+ whereas an MBA XT is £899 currently. The resale value on my 6800 XT is around £550 and this peaked my curiosity for the XT.

In that case, it wouldn't be a bad upgrade since you'll be getting back a really solid haul for the 6800 XT. In that case, I'd say go for it.

Thinking hard about it now as predicted my 6800 XT sold relatively easily. I've been informed by a retailer that come February, years end... price drops are coming to the 4080, 7900 XTX and 7900 XT. AIB's usually want to shift stock so might hold out till then and put some cash aside for when or if this happens.

If you have a 6800xt dont upgrade. There is no need to it. Even if you sell for 500 you wont get anything for 2x price and performance it will be 2x price and 15% more performance. Hold  for this gen unless that one breaks

You've given us no reasons WHY you're thinking about upgrading, or whether it would benefit you in your use case.

Why do you feel the 6800xt needs to be replaced?

Dude, i'm with GTX 1070 and even i don't consider the 7900XT as a plausible upgrade, at least not at this absurd price. At $750 it would make MUCH more sense, but at $900 it's just pointless. If you wanna get rid of your 6800XT while it still hasn't crumbled in value, then sell it and wait, but in a week or two we will be seeing some major GPUs price slashes. Especially if you are in Europe.
