Blue screens during Windows installation with new computer

387

I bought new pc after long time, and ofcourse things don't work.

I have ASUS TUF B550M E WIFI MOBO, Ryzen 5 5600, Kingston Fury 2x16GB 3600Mhz, GTX 970 Strix, 2x1TB SSD Samsung 980 M2, and Corsair TX650M PSU.

Before putting up all the parts, I have flashed BIOS to newest version. Afterwards put up all pieces together, and started Win10 installation. Bunch of different blue screens showing up, like Page fault in non paged area, Driver overran stack buffer, System thread exception not handled, Driver IRQL not less or equal, error code 0xc0000098 and maybe some others.

When it comes to BIOS, I changed the date and time. After some of blue screens, I tried disabling fast boot, turning on DOCP, manually changing clock to 3600Mhz, setting FCLK to 1800Mhz, same story over again...

Eventually after numerous restarts, it managed to install Win10, even got to set to show My computer icon on desktop, but blue screen again and it restarted into endless loop of blue screens. I also did memtest and RAM is ok. Removed battery as well, still blue screens.

Anyone has any idea what might be an issue? Maybe RAM? Thanks in advance!

Try just 1 stick of ram, maybe one of them is bad, if things work fine with one, its the other. Return the set and get a new one.Or hell, it may be as simple as a bad installation ISO. Page fault in non pages area usually indicates ram.

Also, don't turn on any advanced setting like DOCP during this time. Keep everything stock until you're sure things are running ok.

Tried with just one stick in all 4 slots, then with second one, same stuff.

I also tried making another Win installation from my usb and same thing. 😕

Is there maybe some better way than just using that Media Creation Tools?

could be CPU or mobo failure too...

know anyone with anothe ryzen you could test?  actually.. check that ram is on compability list..  and try different ram sticks if possible too.

Nah, nobody with PC.

This RAM is not on QVL. I don't have other RAM sticks, I would have to buy them, but then I would probably return those I have and I am trying to find a solution before I return it.

Download the ISO directly from Microsoft. But they're dickheads so you have to trick their website into believing you're not on Windows. BUT, they're also lazy so they built this ability right into Edge.

Follow this youtube guide, and just download the ISO 🙂

Nah, tried that as well, downloaded ISO and then used Rufus, but as soon as it starts installation it blue screens.

Or then definitely SOME kind of hardware issue. Only thing you can do is start swapping parts if possible.

Does it start in safe mode ok?

I can't even access safe mode. I tried this ISO thing, but now it doesn't even want to start an installation, it just bluescreens before that. I can only access BIOS without issues. 😞

Swap the ram and the PSU.

650W will post test but I would not run that in a new system.

Get 750W or more.

Really looks like a RAM issue.

I know you said you manually clocked the RAM to 3600, but have you tried clocking it lower? Set it to a safe JEDEC spec of like 2400 or something to see what it does?

If it doesn't blue screen then you know for sure your RAM is either faulty or the board and CPU just plain don't like it. I have this exact problem with my Patriot Viper RAM right now, runs at 4400MHz with my 10600K but as soon as I slot in my 11700K? No higher than 3600. Just doesn't like it.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

When I checked on PcPartPicker, it says that my config uses around 319W. Now I don't know how precise these things are, but this is almost double the wattage needed. 🤔

Well when I first started the Windows installation, RAM was at default 2400? or whatever it is. It was just later that I tried clocking it and making it work. I mean if it's just the RAM, I could just return it, and buy some from QVL.

But the biggest issue here is that I've ordered all the components from the internet, so now I have to figure out what to return and what to leave and then reorder new stuff.

I really hope that's the issue. But then again while searching for solution, I have found that other people had used RAM that's not on QVL and it worked on lower frequencies.

Yeah don't listen to that guy, the PSU is more than fine, you could run your setup on a 550w PSU and have plenty room left.

For the RAM, you could run memtest to see if it's the issue, or trying the RAM in different configurations, like 1 stick only, etc... (sorry, didn't read the whole thread so maybe you did already?).

I did run memtest, both sticks passed.

I also tried installing Linux, thinking maybe it's something related to Windows specific, but it just stops as soon as I start installation from boot.

I decided to return RAM with hopes that was making problem all the time.

But I would apreciate help with chosing replacement, considering I am pretty garbage with this (obviously).

89€ Patriot Viper 4 Blackout DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-3200, CL16-20-20-40

100€ Patriot Viper Steel DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-3200, CL16-18-18-36

101€ Patriot Viper 4 Blackout DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-3600, CL18-22-22-42

120€ TeamGroup T-Force Dark Z-alpha DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-3600, CL18-22-22-42

These are my options, all acceptable financially, available for purchase and from QVL. What would be my best option here? Would this Patriot 3600 work with Ryzen 5 5600?

You want 2x-3x for Peak Power Performance for your rig not to crash, reboot, shut down unexpectedly and see you back here in a week or two.

I do not get paid for this FREE advice.

So a 13900k+4090 system needs a 2400W PSU which doesn't exist?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

If Kingston was in QVL, I'd say pick that, but it seems Patriot is the way to go for this setup.

CL/CAS setups will not affect response time and +400mhz of speed will net you less than 2.5% performance.

Go with the speed the MB can handle best.

People are going to say to go for the 3600 kit. That being said you’re not going to notice a difference in speed really from a 3200 cl 16 and a 3600 cl 18 kit. I’d just grab the 89 Euro kit and call it a day.
Theoretically 3600 mhz is better for Zen 3(memory controller likes to run at 1800mhz), but you’d not see a big difference unless it also has tighter timings.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Well I was bit impatient and ordered new RAM before seeing any responses here. I ended up with Patriot 3600 and I get same errors again. So I guess it wasn't RAM after all. 😞

So it might be MOBO or the procesor...

  • 2 weeks later...

Just in case someone else have similar issues, in the end it was the processor. Got new one this morning and so far everything works. Everyone thanks for helping...
