Old GPU - New Build

w8kdrifter

Getting ready to build a new PC to upgrade my old i7 6700k. Current parts list is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NP2GMb

Not sure what I want to do about a GPU, currently have an older 1060 6GB Galax card. Can I use the older card in the new system until I decide what I want to replace it with? New CPU will be an  i7 13700k. Currently have a RTX 3070 as a placeholder on the pcpartpicker list.

You could use your old GPU for now, but maybe make sure the BIOS is set to Gen 3, eliminates the possibility of errors at the very least.

Also, if you have the funds, I'd suggest go with DDR5, at least for your next upgrade, there's a chance that DDR5 6400 would still be the sweet spot therefore you could reuse the RAM.

I've been going back and forth on this for a few days. I am trying to go with a white theme and I did not see many (maybe none) white Z790 boards.

z790 Sonic: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/y4KKHx/asrock-z790-pg-sonic-atx-lga1700-motherboard-z790-pg-sonic

Not only is it a decent looking licensed board, it’s also white+blue. Pretty cheap for a z790 board as well. Another good board is the Asrock z790 Taichi Carrara. VERY expensive though, prolly not worth the price. The NZXT N7 z790 is mid, as all nzxt products are, and overpriced,

You don’t need to go z790 either, you could go z690 as long as it has bios flashback or ships with a compatible bios.

There’s the z690 Steel Legend, the NZXT N7 white, (don’t recommend, overpriced and mid) z690 Aero G, Aero D…

You don't need Z790 board, any Z690 with BIOS flashback would work.

Although, about the white requirement, I can't comment on it.
