I am thinking about the Samsung U28D590D (60Hz, 4K), also am thinking about the Asus VG248QE (144Hz, 1080p, POSSIBLY with g-sync).

I currently have a slightly oc'd MSI 660ti, and a 3570K oc'd at 4.6GHz.

I know that I won't be able to do a whole lot on the 4K monitor, until I upgrade to the new maxwell gpu.

So are these two good ideas, or is there something I'm missing. Also what are your thoughts?

Maybe a 1440P monitor? The 4K samsung monitor is a TN panel, not really the best for 4K content.

Your 660ti can't do 4K. It CAN do 144 fps in a lot of games though.

I feel as if the statement "your 660ti can't do 4K" should be written like: YOUR 660ti can't do 4K

Barely anything can do 4k at the moment. The 290, which is what I'd recommend for 4k gaming, can only do 30 fps low in Metro.

I'd wait a bit before getting into 4K gaming. I'd go 144hz because then your web browsing and general non-gaming experience will be crazy smooth, and indie games will also be good too.

I would not go to 4K with that card, and I don't know what youre upgrading to. if i was you I would get a BenQ XL2420TE over the Asus Monitor, but either way I would not be going to 4K just yet

Edit: just be ready for the fact that when you start using 144Hz you may not like it when you buy a 60Hz 4K monitor. what I'm saying is if you're into this whole 4K thing you'll have to wait a while for a higher Hz 4K monitor

Korean 1440p monitor, 96hz guaranteed, maybe 120hz

Implying a 660 TI will get over 60 FPS at 1440p lol

@op

Get a non korean 1440p monitor, something like a refurbished HP zr2740w or a PB278Q from Asus, they can be had at under 400$.

If you don't want 1440p, 1080p high HZ will be great for you!

Unless you plan on upgrading other things, I'd just stick to what you have.

The TN on the samsung is actually surprisingly good.  Pretty close to my old Catleap and Dell IPS monitors.  Vertical viewing angle is what kills it in comparison.  That and the stand/mounting options.

Well thank you for all of the replies, and I would be upgrading to the 880ti (once it comes out of course) and till then the 4K monitor can easily display 1080p content.

Heres another question, I get around 360+ FPS in league of legends. Don't play it too often, but since my computer handles it so well at 1080p, I should be able to play it in 4K? Or is 2GB of VRAM just not enough....

Get the PG278Q when it finally releases

27 Inch

120hz +

1440P

New TN panel equivalent to eIPS

Also did I mention G-Sync :D which means your 660ti will run really well on any game stutter free as long as you keep the fps above 30 frames per second

Don't forget ULMB (motion deblurifier). Although you can't use that and G-Sync at the same time sadly.

It's rumored to come around June.

Buy two monitors. The only reason you need a high Hz monitor is for fps games.

1. Something like a Asus PB278Q (1440p IPS panel - just a really nice overall monitor)

2. Buy the crappiest (even secondhand) 1080p 22"-24". It will be TN, should have reasonably low response and you can overclock it to approximately 72Hz (which is plenty really).

This way you get the best of both worlds.
