The most critical spec here is HDR. Just look for OLED display or mini-LED VA display with 1000+ local dimming zone and HDR 1000 or above. That it you need to check.

They very much usually do, if HDR is needed and ya want display port, then you really so far only have 1 option with PG42UQ or PG48UQ, both at 42 and 48 inch respectively.

Thanks so much. I have decided to go with the PG42UQ. I have an OLED tv, and its hard to go back to LCD, so this is perfect and the size is exactly what I want.

Comes out december 5th in my country, cant wait.

I hope you didn't buy the PG42UQ yet. Get the LG C2 42" instead. It's better in almost any way, offers more calibration options in it's smart UI and is cheaper. Not to mention the Asus uses a matte screen coating, destroying OLED's blacks when hit by ambient light.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I want displayport and I hate the kind of stand the LG C2 uses

Why do you want DisplayPort? It's objectively a worse connector than HDMI 2.1. And your new GPU supports HDMI 2.1.

I'd recommend to wall-mount either one of them. Both don't really have adjustable stands, not to mention the one on the Asus takes up tons of space.

In terms of the display itself though, the LG is noticeably brighter and like i said has a much better glossy glass finish, resulting in a clearer and more saturated image.

To be fair though, we still don't have a full review of the PG42UQ, though. Don't forget that the information I posted then was just a screenshot off LTT sponsored video. I kinda don't trust them in general and Plouffe in particular when it comes to this sort of stuff, even in a full reivew.

They could have been using some wierd picture mode that limit brightness or did something wrong with the setting. Until, someone took them up for testing, we can't say for sure that it's worse than C2 (just for sure don't worth the asking price)

And it does has one advantage over C2 that is the higher refersh rate, and your probably need it to take advantage of the 4090 (you will be running quite a lot more than 120 fps in most game), and DP 1.4 with DSC is needed for that (you could use DSC with HDMI 2.1 but so it doesn't seem to have as much support)

But yeah, not worth it either way but well, if OP can afford a 4090 he's probably can afford to pay some premium off a display (arguably, at 1800 buck, you might as well just get S95B TV)

I don't see any reason why Asus should include a brightness limiting mode other than maybe a Vesa certified 400 mode like the Alienware monitor. Still, if it'd be a HDR400 True Black mode, then the brightness wouldn't be around 550 nits. This is strange.

I did some more research, and specs seem to claim about 400 nits typical / 900 nits peak. And the review from TFTcentral even measured close to 1000 nits in specific display settings (10.000K, when you're OK with a very cold picture) and still 800 nits in the 6.500K (accurate) mode.

image.png.bcfc6a2c58c32979ab74ab27bbdfc55e.png

I don't know how LTT can fuck up something as simple as brightness measurements. I wonder why Asus didn't call them out for "undermarketing" the monitor's capabilities in a sponsored video (ad). LTT has proven again that they have no competence and credibility when it comes to monitors. Not even when they get paid to put the product in a good light 😂

I'm very interested in what the RTINGS review will bring up.

And i probably still wouldn't buy the Asus for 100 nits more brightness because it still comes with a hefty 80% price premium and a matte screen.

The only thing that would convince me to switch would probably be a 42" 4K 120Hz QD-OLED panel. The low color volume in higher brightness scenes can be a bit disappointing at times. Not saying the C2 looks bad in these scenes, but sometimes it lacks "punch".

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yike, I was right on my money after all. That's why I am so mad with Plouffe he shouldn't not be allowed to review a monitor and that wasn't a joke. LTT old monitor video before him is actually better honestly.

And taking Asus money while turning it into yet another of their house renovation video is such a dick move. I can't believe Asus was actually ok with that.

Anyway at 1800 buck it's way out of my range anyway but if it can reach 1000 nits even at 2 percent windows flash, that would at least made the monitor worth something instead of a complete DOA

I mean if the man wants to do monitors all power to him. But they should at least teach him how to do it right.

Man i'm just planning my own house atm. If it'd have so much stuff for free my budget would probably be doubled. Sure Linus always says "sponsored products aren't free" but come on, you have to do 1 video goofing around the product and get 2 1800€ monitors in return. That's basically free.

Yeah if the brightness is at least somewhat better than the LG then there is at least 1 argument going for the Asus...

Got the feeling that he's probably didn't test it as seriously too, given that it's 'sponsored', when does a through testing like with G2 and S95B that was actually all right.

But seriously, it might partially be Asus false to not give the max brightness out of the default setting but he should noticed that something look wrong with the brightness chart, call Asus, get the explanation and at least let people hear that out in the video.

Or JUST DON"T SHOW ANY DATA. And I can accept that it's an unboxing type video or something, doing half ass test and publish the wrong data is the worst sin they could have possibly committed as a media company.

*Congrat on the house btw, planning to get any giant high end TV this time around? 😆

I agree, if they're gonna half-ass the data presentation, just leave it out alltogether.

Thanks, altough it's still a bit early. I'm still in the planning phase. Didn't take a loan or start construction yet.

I'll likely gonna keep my 55" C9 OLED as my living room TV, still don't see any reason to upgrade in this regard. That thing is still awesome even compared to the latest and greatest. Tbh the C2 i'm using as my PC monitor isn't noticeably better in terms of picture quality. I bought my TV at the exact right time. The C9 proved to be a very future-proof buy. It's much better than the C8 in terms of feature set, but newer models haven't been big upgrades.

Oh you planned to build everything on the ground up? Hope you can find a place not too far from the city then - I have a friend in Witzenhausen and due to their distance from the city, energy bill is skyrocketing during the winter (even before the current energy crisis)

Any that's probably off the topic but, yeah in term of LG WRGB OLED C9 is really a good buy and stood up to a lot of option this year (although arguably C2 55 is a worth upgrade imo, that 30 percent brightness boost is nice)

If own C9 or any recent OLED, I don't see any upgrade is worth anymore. Just use it until cannot use - that is me. If upgrade unless I want bigger screen or smaller screen for PC but this is not call upgrade but instead buy another to suite the requirement.

Oh you planned to build everything on the ground up? Hope you can find a place not too far from the city then - I have a friend in Witzenhausen and due to their distance from the city, energy bill is skyrocketing during the winter (even before the current energy crisis)

Property isn't a problem. Gonna demolisch an old barn on our family property and build my house in it's place. Energy crisis is hitting hard atm but that's not gonna stop me from building. If you let that stop you the problem is we don't know when covid or ukraine stuff will be over (if ever). 2 years? 10 years? I don't want to wait forever.

Any that's probably off the topic but, yeah in term of LG WRGB OLED C9 is really a good buy and stood up to a lot of option this year (although arguably C2 55 is a worth upgrade imo, that 30 percent brightness boost is nice)

LG C9 OLED vs LG C2 OLED Side-by-Side TV Comparison - RTINGS.com

The 30% brightness boost was over the CX and C1, which were a lot dimmer than the C9 to begin with. In the end it took 3 generations to get back to the same brightness levels as the C9 was.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
