Can someone please help on why my GPU usage is not locked at 99% on an RTX 4090?

celpas

Can anyone pls help why my GPU usage is not maxed out at 100% with RT Psycho settings and DLSS Quality?

Cyberpunk 2077 C 2020 by CD Projekt RED 2022 10 14 02 47 45 - YouTube

My system specs are

I7 12700K
32GB DDR4 3600MHZ CL14 RAM
Zotac RTX 4090 Amp Extreme Airo
Corsair HX1000 PSU

I am playing at 3440X1440 with DLSS Quality. GPU usage is never locked at 99% and fluctuates frequently even when my CPU is not maxed out. Increasing the resolution using DLDSR solves this. Why is my GPU usage not maxed out when my CPU is also not maxed out?

1440p + DLSS + 4090... that's 100% a CPU bottleneck.

The reason it doesn't show 100% CPU usage is because most games don't use all the threads. Only when using all threads you'll see 100% CPU usage. Let's say you have 4 cores and threads (which you don't, but this is easy to explain) and the game you play uses 2. That means your CPU usage will be around 50%.

You could probably increase resolution and disable DLSS without losing performance.

1440p may be the limitation, the 4090 is pretty much for people who want to do 4k gaming. 1440p it can do better in some games, but in a few others its only a 20-35% increase which isnt that much honestly. The 7000x3D AMD cpus should help with this but thats next year at minimum.

Cpu bottleneck, sorry mate.  Just look at benchmarks, anything below 4K even a 12900k was bottlenecking in 1440p and 1080p.

Even some games in 4K

cpu can’t keep up with gpu so cpu % means nothing.

Your cpu is either too weak or the game is engine limited.

Your gpu is literally too fast for a lot of todays games at 1440p :p.

CPU is not weak, Cyberpunk just puts a TON of load on CPU compared to most normal games.

DDR4 is probably a factor too.

I've seen it at 4k DLLS with RT as well. The 4090 is pretty powerful.

It's a strong cpu but it's simply too weak for what op wants it to do.

This is more to show how silly fast the 4090 is.

You need a 4K 144Hz monitor to get the full potential from a 4090.

Even the 3080 really needs to be at 4k to get the most out of it, as seems like Nvidia has a DX12 driver overhead problem vs AMD.
