I currently have an i3-4170, h81m1 Mobo, 2x4gb RAM 1600 mhz. As AMD GPU are affordable, I was thinking of buying RX 6700XT. I know it's a bottleneck but I'd love to know how much would it effect performance, how much FPS would I get in current gen games. I read somewhere on a thread where a person encountered dips in performance and massive stutters when he upgraded from gt 760 to RX 6600 (same CPU Mobo). Would I experience the same issues? Is it worth buying the GPU with my current set up?

It’s worth buying the GPU, but damn. If you have enough money for the new GPU, get a decent CPU. Hell, I have an extra 4590 I’d send you in the US if you paid shipping and maybe a couple bucks after you get it just cuz I feel kinda bad; it’ll improve things a little bit but you should really think about upgrading to a modern CPU and 16gb of ram. Even a 4590 will cripple a 6700XT at anything lower than 4K.

At 1080p you will probably experience a lot of stutters and lag with such a low end CPU. At 4K it would be manageable, at 1440p even that CPU will still be a bottleneck.

Hell, here’s a 4790 non-K for $45 or best offer- it’ll be significantly better than even my i5. It’ll still bottleneck the 6700xt a bit, but will be a lot better. https://www.ebay.com/itm/385151612860?epid=22023785146&hash=item59acd337bc%3Ag%3AascAAOSwS2pjPI-9&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAkO027htSLjVjXpvgmzbXbSmOu%2B738VrYhmSTcZ5uLDa01w8K6pCJvP0ztSHSRLK21LEB4ZG6%2FG22Yeiwuf339n6KV7YQ%2FEiieI3VMILzDvwQOIT8I%2BDQT6nGyYmXPreYeCtMnA6%2BUpjgj5yUL69LfbI9%2BljdfGf%2FNWSCuRdA864g9TMQXIr8ZTWqCeT9rJG%2Bsw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR4KXjer1YA&LH_BIN=1

It will be a suttery mess since you have a dual core with 4 threads. I mean 60 fps is an option but expect a lot of drops to below 30 and even 0 when the cpu is too overwhelmed.

I'd say if you REALLY cannot spend any money on a cpu upgrade to at least opt for a used i7 4770(k) or i7 4790(k) (are about 50$ tops for non k ones) and cheap cooler than handles it like a 20$ thermalright assasin 120. Will at least give you a decent gaming experience instead of borderline unplayable.

Your CPU is so old and weak that it will hold back anything.. If you have like $500 to spend rather get a 12100F ($100), a cheap board ($100), 16GB DDR4 ($50), and a $250 RX6600 GPU, this whole set will work much better

Thank you so much! It seems like the best course of action for me is to wait and save some more and then buy a completely new pc 🙂 thank you so much again for the wonderful offer 😄
