Hey,

I'm going to be using 9 QL (7 x 120mm, 2 x 140mm) fans in my build and wanted to connect them all via the commander pro since they will then all power on at the same time and avoid any potential animation syncing issues. I would also be connecting two lighting node cores to the commander pro and likely the temp sensors too. If I had some of the fans using 2 way splitters could I overload the unit and potentially break the fans / ports? Also would the fans run at the rated speeds?

Thanks for any help in advance, sorry for all the questions about this topic :9

Lex.

you know you didnt need to mention corsair employees (not to mention 2 of them have not been active since) at all, someone could have known to answer your question. Thing is I would personally get the commander pro and another controller for the rest of the fans, otherwise If you are gonan use a splitter, just connect it to the motherboard

Make sure to quote me if you want me to respond
Thanks :)

yh, just wanted to make 100% sure :9, also hadnt realised that they were not active xD. I have enough ports on my mobo for the rest of the fans but I heard that they may power on at different times to the ones on the commander pro and cause problems syncing animations

Are you talking about using splitters for just fans, not rgb splitters?

you can use 2x fan splitters without issue, but don't connect more than 2 fans into each port.

yh just splitters to power them xD, ty!

woot?? no missinfo plz

Yeah I know generally you can connect 3 fans to each 1amp port, but start-up spikes are larger than continuous amps that are on the fans.

So I don't feel comfortable recommending someone to connect 5 fans to their 1amp port. I could have said max 3 fans on a port, because that is still safe.

Sometimes it is easier to just say an incomplete truth, instead of giving out potentially harmful half-truths like you are doing here.

If you go out of your way to correct me, atleast mention that the fans use more current for a short spike when initially powering up.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

fuses are made to handle spikes. if any spikes that i have never heard off happens.
i have 5 or 6 arctic fans on one port.

Wait, the commander pro doesnt even have a current limiter? Thats to be expected on cheap hubs but this thing is 75$ and you are telling me it doesnt even have such a basic feature as ocp or current limiting? Literally all my boards have some sort of ocp/current limit on the fan connectors and these are over a decade old

Should still have some sort of robustness to it so running abit over the rating spec is fine for short term, i mean i run a 72w tec off a molex likely rated for 5a or less on 12v rail and run it for hours w/o worry of power cables catching on fire, so i dont see why 1.2a short burst on a 1a rated port would be much of an issue other than the basically non existent risk (because tolerances)
