OnePlus One Announced [Thoughts] #neversettle ?

Ebenesh

This phone really has a ton of "flagship" features for that price. Now, if I can find a way to order the 64gb bad boy in a month, that'd be great.

By the way @Ebenesh, beautifully organized OP, nice!

You get all of that for only $300, or $350 for the 64GB version.

any clue on the UK release? or do i have to pay double to port it?

okaay okay okay........this is what i wanna say. if this is true. god knows why its that price. but if it is true, im going to buy 3 and have 2 as back up, not joking, im serious. i'd rather get 3 of these instead of an iphone or galaxy. even HTC

i broke my G2 after a month. i dont wanna be left hanging waiting for my provider sending me proof of purchase letters for the insurance company to take my phone back. which btw after a full month, no letter yet. so thats my reason for buying back ups :P

I intend to get an iPhone 6 as a free upgrade (or low cost one) and then buy one of these for fun

Also yeah phone insurance is bullshit, its also like £13 on tmobile for me to insure my phone... WHAT

No offense to you or anyone else but this leads me to believe the hype it's basically based on aluminum...yep that's about it really.

i think the hype thing about this phone is more the price for the capacity and specs. same spec phones are around $500 - $600.

No its not the same - however the guy used to be the VP of Oppo - its possible the phone is manufactured by them but not sure. However it is a different company and a different phone

The invite only thing was a instant turn off, like really....

I shouldn't need to get an invite in order to buy a product, in that case, fuck their product....

I agree. They shouldn't be picky about who they want to take $300 off.

Yep, I would gladly shell out 200 more to get a flagship phone if they are picky like that.

Good luck with that business strategy to them.

Selling in china will come in three part:

1. 300 units at 1 yuan : 05/05 (probably equal to our smash the phone contest)

2. First sale for forum users : 05/21 (probably invitation)

3. Global selling in china : 05/28 (because they sell on shop in china)

According to a thread by Faulken on the OnePlus forums, china's schedule is as quoted above. I assume the rest of the world's release schedule will be vary similar and close in date, if not the same. Looks like even just a week different between invite sales and global release sales dates.

Processor: AMD FX8320 Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO 2.0 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600Mhz

Graphics: Zotac GTX 1060 6GB PSU: Corsair AX860 Case: Corsair Carbine 500R Drives: 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD & Seagate 1TB 7200rpm HDD

No. The OnePlus One is cheaper by $200 (dunno what it is in GBP) and is more powerful than the Find 7a. Now, the beefier Find 7 on the other hand has that 1440p screen, but other than that, the OnePlus One has the same specs, except for the battery. The OnePlus One has a bigger battery.

Some other things to keep in mind are that the Find 7 and 7a both have metal bodies, micro-SD expansion, and an easily removeable battery, whereas the OnePlus One has none of those.

I'm just enjoying all the other points in the other price thread about Samsung crumble  :D

But more seriously: to start with this phone doesn't waste extra resources and cost in trying to be too stylish ( It doesn't tries to be impossible thin, it doesn't needs 1440p, It does without the whole curve screen stupidity, It's got significant more real estate than other flagship by being half a inch bigger in screen and even more than that with normal sized top and bottom bezels) (Also, no Aluminum a.k.a. the cheapest material ever to be called "premium" but still some costs due to the inconvenience of designing around the radio-blocking properties of metal)

And second of all, it proves that a flagship phone is unilaterally branded as such by intentionally giving it a higher price tag and fuck with people (It's more expensive and they keep using the word "premium built" so it must be better! Yeah the Camera it's crappier and the other one looks like a fucking bandaid but still...premium!.....700!) Now this one might make little margins out of the gate and all but a) Not as little as you think and B) It's more important for this guys to come out of the gate blasting and get on people's radars, which imho mission fucking accomplished: If I haven't just got a phone 3 months ago I'll get this one.

I'm just enjoying all the other points in the other price thread about Samsung crumble  :D

People were really getting desperate in that thread, even going as far as to mention buying pens as an expense for Samsung. This is a completely brand new company, selling a high end product for like half the price, and still making a profit.

There really is no excuse for flagships to be priced so high.

Also, no Aluminum a.k.a. the cheapest material ever to be called "premium" but still some costs due to the inconvenience of designing around the radio-blocking properties of metal

But dude! Everyone knows that soda cans is the most premium material known to man. Sude it's brittle as hell, yes it's dirt cheap (even cheaper than a lot of plastic), yes it blocks radio waves which causes big issues but it makes the product seem and feel high quality, and that's what's important, right?

I really like it, mostly for the price. With that being said though, I don't think this is a "never settle" phone. It has some drawbacks and it's not a "flagship killer" like their marketing says. If you say "it's a flagship killer" and then in the next sentence has to say "yeah, but it's only 300 dollars" then it's not really a flagship killer.

What I am most happy about is actually that they priced the 64GB model very well. It costs Apple less than 20 dollars extra to produce a 64GB version of the iPhone 5S, so why do they charge 200 dollars for it? That's a 800% profit margin. THAT IS INSANE!

OnePlus wants 50 dollars extra, which means their profit margin (on the flash alone) is 50%, which seems a lot more reasonable. It is also an eMMC 5.0 solution, so I am hoping that it's something like the SanDisk iNAND Extreme. That would be amazing.

It's nice to see dual flash as well. It might have been better with a Xenon flash but whatever, it's 300 dollars and that's something not even 900 dollar phones have (except some Nokia ones).

Here is a list of things I miss on it:

  • Removable battery
  • microSD card slot
  • OIS in the camera
  • Wireless charging
  • Snapdragon 805
  • Front facing speakers
  • IR blaster
  • USB 3.0
  • No mention of SlimPort or MHL support.

Not sure about the camera quality and the display yet, but those are two areas I am worried about. Such small pixels and no OIS will probably suffer quite a bit unless it's bright where you take the picture. There is so little info about the display that I wouldn't be surprised if it's not that well calibrated as well. They mention how the speakers have been tuned but not how the display has been calibrated.
