have you tried playback 21:9 aspect ratio video on 21:9 monitor?

there is two black bar on screen when i watch 21:9 video on tv

 

can i buy alienware 21:9 qd oled monitor to fix that?

Works no problem, even with streaming from Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube, etc. Most movies are in 21:9 and it looks amazing on my PG35VQ.

 

Your main problem is gonna be availability. In europe it currently takes 4+ months from order to delivery.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

the resolution of this monitor does not 100% match 4kuhd video resolution.

does it matter?

you can also just crop the video and that also works , because 16:9 video will have black bars on a 21:9 monitor then.

I wish more (any) platforms supported selecting a crop factor. VLC is great for this feature, but I don't want to go to the trouble of... um... y'know-ing... anything I want to watch, just so that I can watch without letterboxing.

Depends on source. If 4K UHD Disc (or REMUX) then they is black bar because all 21:9 aspect ratio film was encode as 16:9 aspect ratio by included the black bar. You change to what type of 21:9 aspect ratio monitor is still same because is the source how it encode not the monitor issue.

 

To overcome this issue, you can use VLC player to playback and later choose untick always fit windows, then using key combination of Alt+O to zoom out and Alt+Shift+O to zoom in until it fit the screen without black bar.

 

But for Streaming, normally 21:9 aspect ratio film is encode as 21:9 aspect ratio without inserting the black bar, so no issue and no black bar.
